This has been happening for a while, but it's not really annoying, so I haven't thought to post about it yet.

When on a level surface I noticed the Mach-E will rock back and forth a few times when I shift into park and take my foot off the break. I've even come to a complete stop, wait several seconds before shifting to see if that somehow reduces the motion, without any luck. Is this normal or experienced by others?

I have only a basic understanding of how a large electric motor works, so the only explanation that I have in my head is that whatever process brings it into park, needs to shift the magnets in some way that it causes the car to rock back and forth a few times.

Sounds like the car coming to rest on the parking pawl. Completely normal, just like an ICE vehicle with an automatic transmission.

After putting the car in park then very slowly release your foot from the brake and it will gently move to settle into place without going back and forth.

Yes, same thing here. It is far more pronounced for me in this car then any other one I have ever owned whether electric or not. I've come to use the parking break a lot more often.

It's driveline slack/lash freeplay between the car's currrent position and the parking pawl.

Use the parking-brake every time you park -- I do. Habit left over from driving a stick shift.
Also, it puts less strain on the parking pawl and gearbox if you use the parking brake to hold the car instead of the parking pawl. I'd recommend making a habit of it.

Thanks, that's what I thought. Like imstriker said... it is definitely more pronounced in this vehicle than any other I've owned.

Yeah, I'd agree that it seems like there's more play than in other cars. All the more reason I don't like to park without the e-brake on.
