Used EA charge station for the first time today. I’ve only charged at home and have saved my home as a charge location and input charging parameters. Pre-conditioning and set departure times work fine in vehicle and on FP app. When I went to EA DCFC this afternoon I tried to save location so I could set max charge to 80% but car said I had to charge at location before I could save. I manually ended at 80% and 28 of my 250 EA kWh were used. I then tried to save location and it said I needed to charge at the location before I could save. What am I doing wrong, how would I set max charge level if I can’t add location?

Can't save DC charging locations, or set max charging levels.

The F-150 Lightning can set a max overall charging level, so I expect this might come to the Mach-E someday.

So the save feature is used for an office charge location if you have one? When using fast charge I know it slows way down when it hits 80%, do you just need to monitor it? Do some of the charge apps EA, EVgo, PlugShare allow you to see charging status on their apps. Two weeks into the EV thing and it’s a learning curve for sure.

FYI, the FordPass "Stop Charging Now" feature is also not available on a DCFC to discourage unattended DCFC'ing.

Or any commercial location.

FordPass provides a Charging Details button/screen for this.

Commercial location? What would be an example of that. I didn’t look at the FP app when charging to see the charging status, will have to wait until the next DCFC session. TY

ie., shopping, restaurants, lodging. Go to plugshare.com and enter your zip.

The point of DC charging is to get the charge you need and then immediately move your car. So yes, you should be nearby and monitoring your session. Don’t block/park at any charger if you’re not actively using it.

Here’s the priority I use for selecting which EA DC charging dispenser to use.

1. Any non-Chademo 150kW unit, avoid the one with the blue handle (if all taken or broken down then go to #2)

2. Any available 350 kW unit. (If all taken/ down then go to #3)

3. Last resort or if it’s the only open/working charger is when it’s ok to use the combination Chademo unit.

Ok this was a fairly new CCS 150kw at a Target. Plan on taking a short road trip and wanted to know what I was doing before I Needed to know what I was doing. First charger kept falling off and wouldn’t click, thought I was doing it wrong. Read the manual and keep referring to it but user experience is more helpful. Thanks.

This channel has several video guides for how to DC charge with different providers.
