Hello,

I was trying to clean my car yesterday with the recommended soap & water with a soft microfibre cloth that Ford suggests in their user manual, and it worked well on the seats and everything like that. However I noticed afterwards (and to be fair it may have been there before but only realized it while I was focusing on cleaning it) a scratch on the upper left side of the plastic bit that protects the camera that watches us for attention.

Apart from replacing it (which doesn’t seem worth the assumed high cost of doing so) and trying my best to ignore it… are there any recommended methods to clean this in a way that the scratch becomes far less noticeable than it currently is?

I use PlastX routinely to remove scratches from plastic. If it's deep you might be able to get a clear screen protector and cut it to size to cover it.

Okay I’m ashamed and embarrassed to admit I may have made it worse when testing with a quick solution online that seemed promising. Used a magic eraser over the area (pressed very lightly). While the scratch line looks a little less noticeable it may just be because the area surrounding it looks worse now. ?

I definitely messed up trying that method found online. Posting here so others don’t try it. ?

Any suggestions at this point? Would the PlasticX still work on this even though it’s not really a clear plastic? I guess it’s clear in the sense that it’s see-through for cameras but it seems like it’s treated with something to protect the plastic which my “magic eraser” removed. I’m scared to touch it now but it seems like it needs its coating back somehow.

3m sells a scratch kit I used on a corvette acrylic top and it worked. Check it out on line and look for a you tube review.

I have an update: I saw the Ford dealership and thankfully they were able to re-polish it using some polish from Car Brite, and it worked well. :) They did it free of charge which was really nice of them.
