Chatted with my dealer contact at Kirkland Ford... he's been a great contact so far, very quick, direct, and open.

Here's what he said when I asked him about the ADM (additional dealer markup), x-plan, and my deposit:

He said they will refund my deposit if I change my mind at any time. He also said they've already done a few a-plan and x-plan deals with preorders and expect they'll have more to come. He said that's not an issue at all.

In regards to the markup, he said that's a common dealer practice to try and get profit where they can so the advertised price is what it is.

My inference here is: tell them you're from this forum, you have x-plan, and you'll be good to go to get the price we've seen others get here.

I wouldn't write off Kirkland Ford at all. They've been one of the best dealers I've worked with in some time. And for what it's worth, I'm keeping my deposit and deal with them and looking forward to taking delivery this late spring.
