I stored my car at a friend’s apartment for a week while he was out of town. He assured me they had EV chargers. It turns out that they had 240V electric outlets in the garage and he didn’t try to charge my car. This was the first time I tried to use my mobile charger and neither he nor I could get my car plugged into the outlet pictured below. There was a Tesla plugged into another outlet (that I assume was the same type), so I’m wondering if the outlet I was using was damaged. My friend told me later that he saw another Tesla plugged into the outlet we couldn’t use ?‍♂ We wandered around Hunt Valley MD in search of a charger, but that’s a story for another day!

That is a NEMA 14-30 outlet, which can supply a max of 30A.
The plug on the Ford mobile charger has to be connected to a NEMA 14-50 outlet, and it will draw around 32A.

I believe the Teslas have a 14-30 pigtail they can attach to their mobile charger, which is why you saw them in use.

You'll have to buy a charger with a 14-30 plug to charge at that outlet. There is no pigtail for the Ford Mobile charger that will make it work.

This is a NEMA 14-30r (typically used for clothes dryers) and is rated for 24A continuous output on a 30A breaker. It would not be safe to buy an adapter for the Ford Mobile Charger since that can pull up to 32A, but there are other 24A or 16A EVSEs on the market that you could purchase to charge on this type of outlet. You'd be charging at <6kW, so less than you're probably accustomed to, but still enough to fill up overnight.

That is a NEMA 14-30 plug. Your mobile charger that came with the car requires a 14-50 plug. It looks similar but the bottom slot (in your photo’s orientation) is a flat blade on the 14-50 and an L-shape on yours.

Your Ford mobile charger won’t work with that (will draw too much power so an adapter won’t help), but there are numerous ones for sale that will.

Thank you everyone! Glad I wasn’t going insane. We ultimately found a Baltimore gas and electric DCFC charger not too far away (which of course did NOT support plug and charge ? )
