I know exactly what you mean. Part of it is functionality, and the other is the cool factor.It is exactly those kind of trips that i worry about which is a couple times a year but still do a lot of highway driving, I know around town weight matters more and even then not a huge deal. Maybe a wheel with a cool looking detachable aero cover for those days you do travel? Just an idea I'd personally like but if the wheel doesn't knock off a whole lot of range at highway speeds then not a big deal but that is my biggest worry.
We have a fairly large contingent of Tesla owners. Running everything from track setups, OEM sizes, bagged cars, and everything else. None of them have noticed a significant loss in range due to the reduction in rotating mass. It’s rare we add weight. We have even done some hyper mileage setups for those wanting more range.
