A week ago my 54 minute commute morphed to 2 hours. A Silver thaw happened at night where it rained while the temps stayed at 28F and turned the highway into 1/2 inch of ice. The wind was pretty strong (30 mph) and at one point I had to slow from 28 mph to 17 mph to avoid being blown off the highway as the head wind was strong enough to push the car sideways.

Columbia River near Hungry Harbor.

The Mach E did fine and sorta reminded me of my Subie XT (4WD) which was a real snow and ice animal with winter tires. 36,000 miles on the MME’s original tires means they’re a bit marginal. But few autos on the road and the MME’s weight likely helped.

And Whisper mode is the.. err.. “icing on the cake” ?.

I agree that the MME’s weight helps in windy conditions. The car’s lateral windage is moderate and the weight is large (for the vehicle size), so the wind has to blow really hard to do much in terms of lateral displacement.

And the wind was nearly head-on so a realized wind speed of nearly 60 mph (~30mph + 28mph).

That's a great picture.
