Sunday night's wind storm knocked some masonry off from my chimney, and it landed right on my car. The hood needs to be replaced for sure, and the front quarter panel needs a respray at least. I can feel a couple of small dents which I hope PDR will take care of. I've got a great body shop I've used over the years, but I'm wondering whether I might be better off finding a matching hood from a scrap yard? I've never tried that before, so any advice in that regard would be appreciated.

We had some 50 mph winds here a couple of days ago with a lot of tree limbs down. I was thinking during the storm that my garage was a good investment.

I've used https://www.copart.com/ before, but shipping on a hood I'm sure will be nuts.

Our cars are so recent I'd think any hood you find in a salvage yard will be good quality. I'd call around for sure. I'm guessing your body shop will want some absurd cost from Ford for a new one.

If you have insurance, have them pay for the new one and then buy the salvage one lol

I did this for a door a while back on another car. Insurance paid $3200, I bought the door for $350.

@jwalther When I was shopping for that car door eBay was flush with salvage yards selling them, I had to go a couple hours to pick up the color I wanted, but the savings were worth it.

...and re-pointing the chimley....

I would see what the body shop can do - either way the hood will need to be re-sprayed whether it's repaired or from the scrap yard. I would suspect the body shop route may be cheaper.

My wife's BMW X5 45e, a tree limb broke off from way up in a tree and fell on her car while she was in a Spa relaxing!! New windshield, New sunroof & putty & paint. Up to $13,000 so far. We have been sharing my Mach-e. She likes it enough so that she ordered a new one for herself. Expect in June.

I'd ask them to source a hood that's already the right color.
I still wait for a tree to fall on one of my cars. They uproot around here like snowbirds.

File a car insurance claim under comprehensive. I had my hood repair covered because something fell on it. Also had the rear passenger door repaired when a shopping cart hit it. Each repair cost me just $100. (I have good insurance.) And because it’s comprehensive, my rates shouldn’t go up.
