Hi,

I'm looking for user recommendations for steering wheel locks for the Mach E.

I've just got mine, 22 plate, absolutely loving it. I bought a Stoplock Pro Elite steering wheel lock, but every time I fit it, it sounds the horn. This is soon going to be tiresome - and I can only find one position where in its "rest" state its not pressing the horn enough to activate it.

So, I'm going to send it back and am going to get an alternative - what are you all using (those of you who are!)

Or is there a way to turn the horn off when the ignition is off?

Many thanks,

Richard. x

Are you solely looking for a theft deterrent?

I'm not sure its possible to "hotwire" the MME and drive off without a key? So, I'm not sure what the steering wheel lock is going to get you.

Has anyone heard of a theft incident that didn't involve a Fob / PaaK / passcode compromise?

Yes exactly that... To deter a hapless criminal to move along to the next easier target...

Whilst hot-wiring isn't (presumably) possible, spoofing the key fob I imagine is?

But maybe I'm worrying too much about my new toy!!

If you're street parking in a dodgy neighborhood, the device could be worth it like you said.

I don't know if there is a way to spoof a keyfob, unless a dishonest dealership was involved.

There is a way to amplify your actual keyfob, to make the car think you are closer than you actually are, thus enabling someone else to start and drive away. It's complicated and requires your keyfob to be in the general vicinity already. I don't think smash and go guys are doing that kind of stuff though.

It's even more difficult in the UK because their fobs are required to go to sleep after a period of inactivity.

The Club can be defeated in 15 seconds by a person that watches a video. I would never use a device like this.

Which is why we got the crappy old key fobs that I had with my old Kuga (Escape) and not the nice chunky fobs you guys get.

Accept no cheap imitations! Ask for The Club by name!

Brings back memories. What was that, the 1970's? Hard to believe they're still selling them. Can you still get a Popeil Pocket Fisherman?

In my humble opinion the more deterrents to prevent your new vehicle from being nicked the better. Criminals are getting ever cleverer at getting round manufacturers' electronics and sometimes a visible deterrent will help keep you safe. I use a Milenco on my steering wheel which does not set off the horn and apparently is highly recommended by the boys in blue. Either direct from the manufacturer or from Amazon. I also keep my keys in a Faraday pouch which I think is essential.

This is exactly what I had for my Mach E - I positioned the locking head around the 2 o'clock position, with the opposite end resting against the centre console and it didn't set the horn off. What I can't remember is what position the actual steering wheel was in - I no longer have my Mach E!!!

I'm a bit late to the thread, but I thought I'd mention an alternative.

I originally ordered a Stoplock Pro, but it didn't give enough clearance for the horn push so I had to send it back. I then ordered the Pro Elite, and had the same problem as you with it resting on and activating the horn.

Rather than send back the Elite too, I made a hook that fits round the wheel and leaves enough clearance above the horn push.

It's a bit of a workaround, but I wasn't in the mood for sending another one back and having to find a different one that worked.

Hi Biogoo,

Thanks for your response. I went for the Milenco one in the end - which is working well for me.

But I like the look of your hook attachment. How did you fashion it - 3D printing?

Richard.

Yep, designed in FreeCAD and then 3D-printed in PETG, to avoid it deforming in higher cabin temperatures.

The Milenco does look like the better option though!
