Not a direct competitor because this is not a performance EV and more for the "My First EV" demographic to haul groceries and commute with. This is what the ID.4 should have been IMO.

They are but the Solterra is purely AWD and so price point wise it’s close to the Ioniq 5 SE/SEL AWD.

The Solterra Limited with AWD, 360 camera, premium audio is basically the same price as a Select AWD with tech/comfort package.

If you thought the Mach-E had slow charging at the top end, this one might be the worst. @OutofSpecKyle says it is likely the worst charging on an EV that he has tested.

While neither are for me, I can't imagine Toyota will sell many of their bZ4X cars once people realize they soon won't get a Fed $7500 tax credit but they can get essentially the same car from Subaru with the credit. Very weird product development/marketing choices.

Toyota may lower prices slightly as the tax credit is phased out over the next year. They are expected to hit 200K this quarter officially.

The bz4x and Solterra aren't exact matches... the Toyota has FWD but the Solterra is 100% AWD and their features are slightly different in some areas.

Of course on all counts, but it's hard to see how a FWD bzrx can compete price-wise with an AWD Solterra with a $7500 tax credit that the majority of bZ4X buyers will not benefit from. I suspect Toyota was banking on the BBB Bill getting passed with more EV tax credits...

it could have been a decent competitor in the EV market if they had given it acceptable range and charging speed.

Toyota still doesn’t want to make EVs. They need to give up on their hydrogen dream.

this could be an awesome car if they make some small updates (first on the list is a bigger battery, at least as an option).

I think that's why they priced it at $42k rather than $37k so when the tax credit goes away, they can decrease the price.

Is it just me or the Subaru and the Toyota look similar? Did they just use different badges?

Same car basically... Toyota builds both. Slightly different features but minor.

Visiting dealership tomorrow to discuss my reservation with them and to see what the markup is like now that "factory ordering" is possible.

The charging curve as hinted by Kyle @ Out of Spec - is one of the worst for any EV. I will probably pass on this first attempt of an EV.

Just saw your little profile block. Curious how many EV credits did you claim last year?
