Hey,

I’m in a Tesla Model Y for the first time and am digging this animated section of the large screen display that shows traffic and pedestrian activity in real-time. Has anyone else seen this? Is it something that you’d like to see in the Mach-E? Just curious.

Nope. I think it would be too distracting for most drivers and take their attention away from actually driving. Did you know that, back in the day, when pilots were first learning to fly, instructors would slap stickers over the instruments to keep students from focusing on what the instruments said and focus on looking outside and flying the plane? Same thing here - stop looking at the pretty animated display of what the car thinks is outside and look outside!

Yeah, I’ve driven an M3 with it. Cool at first but pretty soon you realize how often wrong it is and then it gets kinda concerning… You know, like, it’s making decisions on that shit?!

It's fun for about 5 minutes, then you realize you're spending more time looking at it than the road whilst driving. Then you almost never think of it again.

I’m not gonna name names, but it’s a little rich all the guys bagging on Tesla’s vastly superior interface as “distracting” were probably the same crowd bitching about Ford ditching the utterly useless centered speedometer animation.

Guys, when a Teslastan comes here to troll about Tesla’s superior software, the appropriate reaction is to make jokes about it - not actually try to defend Ford’s crappy software.

is it a FEATURE I want from Tesla
NOT really
I do like what it takes to give you that and would like FORD to have a proper sensor suite to be ABLE to do that especially with bluecruise
I have driven a 3 with it and it is interesting to see what it IDENTIFIED as what
IE trains as a line of lorries bumper to bumper and NOT a train
Tesla is miles ahead on the "software stack" as it is ALL INHOUSE and all from the same team unlike FORD
but the "universal EV" supposedly is a "software defined vehicle" AKA vertical software stack

I don’t see the point of it. It seems like flash for the sake of being flashy. The kind of technology thing they “invent” for movies.

I can’t ever use it to drive. There’s no way in hell it’s trustworthy enough. And I can just you know… look straight ahead.

So mostly it seems to be wasting half the screen to me.

It’s a neat toy. Not sure what the purpose is exactly.

Do I want it? I mean, toys are fun, so why not?

It's a great feature. It makes really obvious what a bloody awful idea it is for people to rely on Autopilot or "Full Self-Driving" on city streets.

Actually, I never cared that much about whether the speedometer was centered. I do care when UIs or UI elements become too distracting.
