Does anybody use a Tesla Universal Charger at home for Mach e and are there any issues like excessive heat at the car connection/adapter?

I have the Tesla universal wall connector. I have not had any iheat issues with it. Mine is set for the full 48 amp output on a 60 amp circuit.

Yes, people have had heat issues with a Tesla Universal Charger, across various makes of vehicles. Moreso they have had issues with the Tesla Wall Charger and a crappy adapter, but the Universal charger is not without issues.

Have one, no issues whatsoever, use it on different vehicles daily. Only downside is changing the amperage/output is a bit of a pain. Most people don't ever have a need for changing it after initial install....unless you have solar and are trying to roughly match your roof's output to the charger's output.

I have a Tesla Universal Charger that is hard wired to a 60 amp breaker that I use to charge my Mach-e and my Chevy Volt. I've been using it for about a year with no issues. I have noticed no excess heating anywhere on the unit, including the adapter.

I buy, repair & sell Tesla Wall Connectors and the most common issue that I see is failed relays. My conclusion is that charging continuously at 48 amps is hard on the relays and may cause them to fail. The large number of failed Tesla wall connectors for sale on eBay seems to support my conclusion.

I believe the Mach E max charge rate is 11kW (40 amps continuous) which seems to mitigate the relay issue. So, you should be good.

Have been using my Tesla Universal about weekly since January 2024 (3.2MWh). Outside in my carport semi protected from rain, snow, and sun but with no issues of any kind. Wish I could easily vary the power output through the app to either fast or slow charge but otherwise just works.

Download the “Tesla One” app, set up an account, and you can change it as needed.

I have had a Tesla Universal Charger for 6 months now. It is hard wired to a 50 amp breaker and set at 40 Amps.

It worked flawlessly for the first two months of charging my 2024 MME. Then it starting causing a charging fault every time I plugged in the car. Unplugging and plugging back in would fix it, but it was annoying.

I used the Tesla app to turn on “Compatibility mode” which is in the “Access Control” settings. Resolved the issue and have been charging without errors since.

The Mach-E max AC charge rate is 48amps, not 40amps... 40amps is not 11kW, it is 9.6kW.

I stand corrected. 48 amps is indeed 11kW. Consequently I recommend setting Tesla units to charge at 50 amps max (40 amps continuous) to reduce the risk of relay failure.

Lived in a building with a single communal universal Tesla charger. Never had an issue and neither did my neighbors who drove Teslas, Ioniq5, Escalade IQ, Rivian, etc.
