I wish there was an RJ-45 jack on the car so I could just plug in an Ethernet cable instead of relying on my sometimes crappy WiFi.

Exactly!!! The car companies need to provide better guidance on this. And if the dealer is the only choice because the home network is not so good then the dealer network has to perform!!

I mentioned that some time ago. I am also in hardwire we trust guy. A whole lot faster, sable with a lot less hassle. I think data could run thru the charger cable and come out of your electrical panel with a jack. Unfortunately I think we are a dying breed and that may never happen.

Not only is good 'ol Enet more reliable than WiFi, it is also faster. In fact I had the opportunity to demonstrate to a doubting neighbor. Standing right next to the router, he managed just under 500Mb/s on his new phone, which is pretty good. I then took him to my pc which is hard wired to the router and performed a similar test. 900Mb/s. He left shaking his head....

Now that is not to say that we should go backwards; it just means that given the necessity of plugging in your car to charge (at home if possible) may provide the opportunity to perform OTA via Enet....just saying.

Fun fact: the router matters too. I currently (long story) have a POS router connected to gigabit FiOS. The stupid router can only manage 200 Mbps when connected to the “1G” Ethernet ports, yet if I directly connect to FiOS and bypass the router, I’ll see 850-950 Mbps. My router is garbage (TP-Link).
