The "shutting off" software doesn't recognize closed side view mirrors when manually done!

When walking up to my car, only intermittently would the "Welcome Lights" and the "Puddle Pony" come on.

Also intermittent was the seat would not always go into the "back and friendly" position, often would go all the way forward while I was standing their waiting to get in (so set #3 seat positionto be all they way back so at least I could get in).

I checked and verified I had everything set in my options for these things to work.

I think I found the problem...at least it has worked for the last few times:
  • I have a tight parking squeeze into my garage.
  • I would close the side view mirrors when pulling in, then shut off the car.
  • No "Welcome Lights", no "Puddle Pony"
  • But when I opened the mirrors when parked and before shutting off, it would shut down and then when I come back turns the lights on and seat is all the way back.
MY BELIEF IS WHEN THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS ARE MANUALLY CLOSED, THE CAR CANNOT PERFORM THE CLOSING FUNCTION AND SO DOES NOT KNOW THEY ARE CLOSED AND DOESN'T COMPLETELY/PROPERLY SHUT DOWN.

CAN OTHERS VERIFY IT IS THE PROGRAM OF THE VEHICLE CLOSING THE MIRRORS THAT IS PART OF THE SHUTDOWN, NOT THE ACTUAL CLOSING OF THE MIRRORS!

I'm not sure if the welcome lights are tied to the other settings as you describe, but it is in the manual that you must have the mirrors on auto for welcome lighting to work, so if you're manually closing them, that would probably turn off the welcome lights working and I guess lead to the cascade effects you're experiencing, although it should NOT be like that and only the welcome lights shouldn't work. Your easy entry/exit should be working.

Have your dealer update the DSM (driver seat module) to fix the problem with the seat not moving. Known bug.

agree...but as someone who has done some programming, I probably would have written the code so the "if/then" for a complete shutdown would by the full and proper execution of the close mirror program; and in this case the program was (incorrectly) written so if the mirrors were already closed the program did not fully execute. I can bet my situation was not considered, with closing the mirrors manually before shutting off the car.

I have sent this to someone I know on the Ford engineering team; let's see what they come back with.

Thanks, they claim to have done so. If the "don't close the mirror before shutting down" doesn't work I will bring it back in.

I fold the mirrors manually in the garage and when approaching the car, it welcomes me with lights and the pony on the floor. But I don't lock the car in the garage and don't use walk-away locking - maybe that's the difference?

Actually the manual doesn't exactly say that. Since the manual is poorly written, it isn't necessarily the case that it doesn't intend to mean what you say here, but strictly speaking that manual only says if you have auto-folding mirrors they must be closed for the puddle lights to work. (I.e., you could have the mirrors not set to auto-fold on shutoff, yet if they were folded manually, the puddle lights should still work.)

I'll be curious to hear what they say. I can tell you that I also manually activate the folding of my mirrors when I park in my very tight garage, yet my puddle lights work.....sometimes. I've read elsewhere that if your key fob (or Paak) is generally within range of the car (e.g., you're in your house and your car is in your garage), then the puddle lights are less likely to be activated.
