Gas stations are able to sell gas nearly at cost and subsidize pump purchases and maintenance with the convenience store. This should be easier with EVs because you have a captive audience that doesn’t even need to supervise the refilling process.

in an unrelated note, I always laugh when people complain about broken chargers and talk about how gas pumps always work. They must never have been to Albuquerque. The only place you can go to with guaranteed working pumps here is Costco.
Ditto. Filled up my truck today. I bypassed the local Ingles Grocery station as there were about 5 broken pumps out of 12. Went to the local Walmart and they had three pumps down. True, less of an issue for gas pumps as it only takes a few minutes to fill up vice 30 minutes +. Still, both have down issues.

Just got back from the ceremonial ground breaking. I learned that you shouldn't wear flip-flops to a very dusty, loose dirt parking lot. ? My car really needs a bath right now.

But really, i was just loitering, seeing what was there when the CEO, Nathan McDonnell, came up and started chatting with me. Told him I saw the article in the paper and thought I'd stop by to see what's going on. We talked about the current charging landscape and I told him my story of having to change chargers a few times and the time my credit card got locked because of trying to restart charging multiple times after charge faults. He said their plan is to set it up so you can swipe or tap your credit card or tap your phone at the station. Future vision is to have plug and charge.

The actual ceremony was announcing that they're partnering with Gelson's to have them as the human fuel. And the usual talk of why they're doing this and city council people thanking them for choosing Santa Ana.

It's a large space in an existing strip mall, be very interested in seeing it when it's all done. Hope it lives up to their vision and that others follow their lead across the country.

OK, was in the neighborhood today and pulled into the strip mall next door to get a couple of pictures. Large solar panel canopies are up, building is up (not sure about the inside) and what looked like a car wash tunnel. Didn't get out of the car, just a couple of quick pics from the other side of the chain link fence.
