The EU can’t even agree on an ICE ban. All 27 have at agree in order for it to take effect. Denmark tried to do it themselves, proposed a ban by 2030, 9 other member states, including the UK, joined them... then upon realising that it might be illegal, the danish cancelled their commitment and are now instead trying to lobby the entire EU block to agree. That block is largely propped up by Germany and France. Germany have a pretty huge automotive industry, in case you’ve not noticed, and it is struggling... they will not support a ban until they have a chance to properly protect their industry and slowly phase this out. They can’t afford to move as fast as the UK. And when they finally do, they’ll then find a way to incentivise buyers to buy from the block, not importers. Ford aside, American cars do not have a presence in Europe.

The UK has put a ban in place, it’s really not that far away and has already begun huge infrastructure developments and committed a lot of money to make sure we’re able to transition smoothly... Why on earth you’d think Ford would be willing to bypass selling an electric car to a captive market is comical... never mind the fact that the UK buys more Fords than any other country in Europe... in fact we’re the 3rd largest buyers of Ford after USA and China. What you’re saying is you wouldn’t be surprised if they cut their nose off to spite their face!

But probably the most salient fact is that the UK voted out of the EU before the MME opened up for pre-orders... so if Ford were in any way worried about not being able to sell a small amount of cars in Europe, why would they have even made them available in the UK to begin with? And why are they STILL advertising so heavily with target ads on Facebook and Twitter in UK? They’re never not selling MME in the UK, and they’re unlikely to be fined by the EU considering Covid is something that impacted all automakers not just Ford.

Follow the example of your Tesla with its Autopilot and try stick to your lane.

Yes yes, we all know there is a penalty, no one knows that more than Ford themselves... who also know the UK voted to leave the EU 2 years ago... and who would have no doubt calculated for this. To assume Ford haven’t even considered this until now, is laughable... never mind suggesting they’ll snub their 3rd largest market to compete for scraps in Europe.

Well considering I’ve just received this on email, I’d say there is zero chance of UK being skipped all together.

It will never happen. Car sales around the world have tanked during this period, and at the start of the year before it all kicked off, around 13 manufacturers were looking likely to miss the emissions target... Ford was not one of them. So let’s say ford with greatly reduced sales figures on ice and hybrids in Europe this year, were on track to hit their target but Covid forces some vehicle sales to slip into 2021 and they miss. If the EU wants to fine Ford for this, which they won’t,l when they have 13 other companies set to miss to the target pre-Covid, then from Fords standpoint, it is a force majeure. They refuse to pay. Those cars are not going anywhere pal. If anything, more will be coming to the muddy isles ??
