Used Mache e advice please

Dear All,

I currently own non EV cars and thought I will not need a EV in my lifetime but Govt is forcing/tempting to go EV route by all those tax benefits.
I have 3 cars at the moment a 4.5 diesel, a 3.3 petrol hybrid and a 2 litre petrol one. I spend about 550 per month on my petrol ones.
Thinking of replacing the two petrol ones with a EV as I can claim costs under company benefit.
I drive 80-100 miles a day. considering a used EnayQ 80 or used Mach E. 2021 or 2022 models as they fit my 500/month replacement.
Please advice if used Mache is reliable? All I need is reliable stress free motoring like my current cars.

Yes, its reliable enough, you may still get the HVBJB failure, but most dealers should be able to fix it in a week or two. Make sure you have a home charger.

Thank you very much. I will look for a car with some Ford warranty left.
I am looking at this HVBJB failures. It’s just how these cars are built but is this expected to fail frequently (like Kuga’s known auto gearbox failures at 30-40K)

You can get an extended warranty for up. A 100k/8 year policy will only cost about 1.5k. I think it's well worth it if you're going to be driving that much.

Both my mirrors were stuttering when unfolding. No big deal right? Well, the dealer charged almost 3k to replace both. Luckily it was under warranty.

Ford & Dealers are giving year end deals and tax credits may not be available next year.
If you have good credit you may qualify for 0% financing.
Compare the cost of a new one vs used one before buying.

I have been preparing a list of questions to ask the dealer. The one with teeth is I want a warrantee recall/repair list. Think of me on this issue as pitbull if they try to sell me a lemon law return or equivalent Ford buyback. Also I want ALL updates to have been installed, or an understanding they will do all difficult ones. I also want a lot of bumper-to-bumper warrantee left and maybe an extended warrantee. The MME is still just a bit of an experimental vehicle. For most of the owners it has been an exceptionally new car experience - but there are outstanding exceptions.

I note the previous replies are from our friends across the pond so bear in mine some of their responses reflect the US position re spares, HVBJB repair times etc.
I'm not convinced you would get your car back within 2 weeks in the uk if your HVBJB failed.
I have had a extended range rear wheel drive model for 2 years and covered 40k miles. It is a company car. My experience is that the car is very reliable. I am really glad I got the extended range as range anxiety is virtually non existent.
The suspension may take some getting used to depending upon what car you previously had. I previously had a Merc and it was significantly harder but not an issue for me. It does not have some of the refinements of other cars such as Mercs, BMW but is smooth, quiet and responsive. I don't think reliability will be an issue. Unfortunately due to the long time between services the car rarely gets washed/valeted but I guess I am in the minority in that respect.

Thank you. I am ok with waiting time as this is one off instance or once a year thing. I have mixed type of cars- a 20 year old Accord, Lexus RX hybrid and Landcruiser V8 so ride quality is across the spectrum. As long Mache e ride is better than my 20 year old Accord, I am ok. I am looking at 2022 used extended range ones as that fits my maintenance cost per month for Accord and Lexus. Planning to replace these two cars with either a Mustang or enyaq.

I am more tempted to go for Mustang as it has a unique place among car enthusiasts and ICE Mustang was on my list but it didn’t fit into my lifestyle/purpose. An old with a little kid driving a V8 mustang dosent fit ?

Thank you that’s very useful list to check with dealer, as I am looking for a used 2022 model. Almost all EVs seem to be in Phase 3 experimental stages as most of the models I am interested in have only 2-3 year real world data

The standard range Mach-E is much less likely to have HVBJB issues. Also, if you can get a car manufacturered June 2022 or later, as theoretically, that should be the newer and somewhat more durable HVBJB.

Yes, theoretically, it is in the process of being replaced. You can look at service records to see if it's been replaced yet or not, and if so, when (as early failures may have gotten the old version for replacement). Also, if the HVBJB is close to failing, the car should throttle power and say Service Vehicle Soon, but still be driveable until it can be repaired. There are a couple people in these forums who drove 4000 miles between the SVS alert and getting the car repaired.

Try not to get a second hand Company car Mach-e, I have one and everyone I know who has one charges to 100% every time and also at over 66K miles in 2 and a half years, lots of DC fast charging. That and the fact that as its a company car no ones really bothered about how they drive, where they park, what they hit!!!
