Are they any settings/mods that yield more from built-in cameras? It can be much more.
Like tesla using them as a dash cam, monitoring activity when parked. Or Honda use side view when changing lines.
Seems like the HW is there, it is just lacking software?

Sentry mode like a Tesla is impossible because the cameras are in the wrong place/orientation. Same for lane changes like in the Honda. And same for Dash cam functions.

They were kind of engineered to be only good at one thing.

What do you mean? If I can record what I see on the front/rear cameras when parking, it will be good enough for dashcam.

Ponder this, would the cost of software development/deployment be cheaper than getting one of the plethora of dashcams already on the market? I've seen them as cheap as $50USD to $400+USD. Would you rather have another software component that can fail/have bugs or a standalone dashcam?

You can always disable a software feature and buy your own dashcam, if you want. But not having this SW is a kind of a lost opportunity. Unless MME's HW is assembled such a way, that it is not possible.

You can add HDMI in as well as blind spot cameras w/ this device. It will also give you better control of the cameras via the unit itself. It's got a whole bunch of programming options for the cameras. The 360 cams are 178 degree fish-eye. There's a whole lot more there to see than what the defaults are. Ford needs to hire tesla's team for a few weeks to sort out their poor configuration, especially around the cameras. To get an idea of just how much the cameras can see, enter camera mode and select the front panoramic mode and you'll get 178 degrees of front side to side vision. It's actually quite impressive just how much it can see side to side.

You can also add your own switches to engage a camera mode. Not sure if anyone has done something with this device for a sentry mode style monitoring. No reason it couldn't be done.

Sample of blind spot mode w/ blinker activation

No, don't make sense, too many people on here like to say the cameras are horrible and only work for 360 view, not knowing how 360 view stitches the image together and there would still be SOME benefit to a sentry mode with the existing cameras then not doing one at all. Especially since the software would be the same that they can use on newer models with better placed cameras.

The only issue w/ 178 degree fisheye is that there needs to be cropping / adjusting software behind it to really get the most out of it given the odd looking distortion you'd normally see.

I’m pretty sure the cameras don’t have the resolution to be a good dash cam. There is also the issue of the car not having been designed with storage (storage, not memory) for storing the files. ?‍♂?

Regarding a sentry mode, the cameras you have were optimized for that overhead view you see on your screen. The pictures you would get would be knees down for children, shins down for an adult. Probably not useful. ??

Since we live in 2023, ideal solution will be to have a dashcam, which you can manage from your phone remotely. Is there anything like this that I can buy and it works with MME? So I can use my phone to access past dashcam events etc? Does camera get power when MME is parked?

No, it won’t. Bad angle, resolution, and frame rate. Adequate for parking, sure.

This.

You could use them to look at the shoes of the person who broke into your car.
