Using "L" as a brake?

I use L mode whenever on the highway. I like having max regen to be able to easily and quickly begin to slow down without having to touch my breaks. Break lights on the highway are almost always a cause for traffic jams, usually caused by folks practically right up the rear end of the guy infront of them. Causing everyone behind them to start hitting the breaks as well, in anticipation of a harder stop instead of just easing off the gas.

I don't like 1 pedal, and I don't want to stiffen up the steering wheel feel by setting the car in Unbridled, so L works and feels great for me in combination with Engaged.

Whats a Break light? Seems dangerous or convenient

I would be slightly concerned about being rear-ended where I live/drive if someone didnt use Brake lights on the interstate, too many hills to crest and crap ones-self

I'm a pretty observant driver and I watch the behavior of folks behind me when easing off the acceleration to let regen slow me down and if i feel they are too close I'll tap the breaks lightly to signal they should back off. The break lights will come on automatically on the MME if regen results In a deceleration of a particular threshold. Not sure how that algorithm works exactly, but it likely uses an accelerometer to determine how fast you decelerate and when to engage brake lights.

You know what else you can do? You can flip the car into Neutral, coast for a while, then slow down by flipping it into Drive. I have not tried L with the car in Neutral, but I guess it only works when the car is in Drive.

Hypermiling a BEV. Not for me and my GT. My GT is made for WOT and 1PD. IMO.

I usually drive in whisper mode (non-one pedal driving) and have been using the L button as a way to slow down when coming to a light or upcoming traffic or an off ramp without using my foot. It's almost like a game to see if I can do it efficiently without using the brake or slowing too much when not needed. Am I the only one who does this? Does anyone know if this is good, bad, or indifferent for the vehicle, or efficiency.

I've done this too, shifting in to neutral to maximize how far I can go without pressing the pedal again. This, and using L to break, is more a mental game to make boring drives a little less so.

Plus. you’re essentially driving 1PD at that point, so why not just drive 1PD?

Maybe I’m just a KISS kind of guy, but, ….. 1PD - no switches, knobs, brake pedal taps, rear view mirror checks. What am I missin’? Never, mind. I don’t want to know.

Hell yeah '71 superbeetle here... Push in to move it left and back (away from dash). Definitely used the hell out of downshifting for slowing down on that thing.

That's funny, my wife settled in on Whisper+1PD, while I prefer Engage+2PD because it feels most similar to my F150 hybrid and I get the brake score.
