for piece of mind you can tape the charge port door closed. This is what the manual says about running thru a car wash

I've never done this in a car wash. Hm.... maybe I should be doing this...

I have a subscription to an automated car wash company called Quick Quack. 3+ years of weekly washes and no issues at all.

I use temp neutral and fold in my mirrors during a wash, but I do not switch the car off.

FWIW, I never use a commercial car wash machine anymore, ever. Too many problems with too many cars.

With a good ceramic coating, I just use a ph neutral shampoo /foam via a Katcher pressure washer, then wipe off excess with a shammy. Works well, easy. Cars have more than well kept a great appearance since this, definitely not so with the drive-thrus.

You are more likely to have issues with a car wash that isn't a touch free/brushless one, but that is true for all vehicles not just EVs.

There is really nothing different about your Mach-E.
Totally agree, exactly right. I’d be more concerned with the quality of the finish over time.

This is only necessary if you want to turn your car off during the wash. If you leave the car on, the car will stay in neutral after you shift to neutral.

Hi everyone,

So as I get closer to pulling the trigger on a mach e, there is one thing that makes me a little nervous.

Car washes.

I've heard a lot of stories of car washes ripping out the charger door and what not. But even worse, some people say that when the charging port gets wet, it's ruined. Is there any truth to this?

Now the current car that I drive has a push-to-open gas tank cover and it occasionally will be pushed open when I go through a car wash, but nothing dramatic ever happens. I think that's because the one that I go to, there's no spinning parts that spin counter clockwise, so there doesn't seem to be much of a risk that something will get ripped off? (wishful thinking?) I'm more worried about the inside components getting wet and damaged.

Saw a post from someone in a facebook group that claimed if this happens, the whole car is ruined. Is that a possibility?
I've run mine through the car wash many times. Mostly touch free, but occasionally with soft touch if we've been on a road trip and have a lot of bugs on the bumper. I've had zero issues.
