Sometimes when I walk away from the car, the beep does not occur so I'm not sure if it is locked. When I get back to my apartment, the FordPass app shows "vehicle in on". What does that mean?

That you forgot to turn it off. Or, that FordPass is lagging.

I suspect it may be that that there is no connectivity to the car so the FordPass is lagging. I live on the 5th floor of an apartment and the car is in an underground garage with no WiFi. If the car was really on, would I notice a decrease in the %charge the next day? Can it be on and locked?

Your suspicion is probably correct. The car will turn off at 30 minutes unless you turn off the shutdown timer, so no, there would not be a loss of charge.

Yes, you can leave it on and locked, simply close the door and push the lock icon or the bottom 2 buttons of the keypad. It will then shutoff in 30 minutes, or if you turned the timer off, it won't shutoff.

If you cannot receive a cellular signal at the car, you won't be able to use the features of FordPass including Remote Start (Climate), etc.

I suspect it’s a FordPass bug. I never used to see it but I do from time to time lately. If I go check the car, it’s off but FP still reports it on despite claiming to get a successful refresh after I’ve confirmed it’s off.

If you have autofold mirrors, i just look for them to fold and i know it’s locked. The beep/honk can be turned on and off so maybe check settings to the Way you want.

The car will automatically shutoff after 30 minutes unless you have that setting disabled. But AFAIK the setting always reverts to auto-shutoff on the next key-cycle (or whatever we call it on vehicles that have no keys! ?), so it is unlikely that if the car really is on that it would stay on and drain the battery (much). That said, you can just walk back to the car and check. If the car is on, the center screen will be illuminated...
