I had stopped at a light. And I noticed this new symbol on the instrument cluster display panel. Do you guys know what it is?

Adaptive cruise control is off
^^
It means you had cruise control on, set to 18 mph, then hit the brakes. It also could mean you accidentally hit the cruise button while going 18 mph. Definitely an odd speed to cruise at.

39k miles is a lot to have never used cruise control.

You may have hit the brakes. You may have stopped cruise but left it turned on.

Either way, it says your cruise is on and set for 18 mph but currently cruise is not active.

Thanks. It was that.

Regarding cruise control:In the last 35 years of my driving, I have used cruise control about 4-5 times. Never felt comfortable letting go of control while driving. :)

If you use it properly, you don’t let go of control.

It’s a drivers aid, not a drivers replacement. Same with full Bluecruise. Drivers shouldn’t wait for the car to respond when you see brake lights ahead for example.

I honestly wished more people would use cruise.

It’s pretty frustrating when you get stuck behind someone on the highway whose speed varies significantly. It can really mess traffic up with enough people driving like that.

Holy crap, I use cruise nearly every day of driving. Particularly on our cars with smart cruise, just makes staying at the right speed so easy.

Thanks. It was that.

Agreed, if used properly it creates a significant increase in safety for you and everyone around you. I'm at the point that when I change lanes in heavier traffic, I'll hesitate to get in front of someone that doesn't have the camera cluster around their rearview mirror. The idea the guy behind me has some safety tech that might prevent him from rear ending me is at least a little reassuring.

That being said, I find my self constantly conflicted with the self driving/assisted driving tech on this car. It is such a fun car to actually "drive" that I almost feel bad going to bluecruise sometimes. I try to give myself at least a few minutes of fun driving every time I take it out. Definitely nice to have the ability to go almost full self driving on the highway on those days that seem longer than others.

I love driving it (and the Lightning). But, when I'm driving 3 days to/from Colorado, or 5 days to/from CA, or 2 days to/from Florida, handsfree is great. Driving can get monotonous.
