I've been getting emails form Ford that my "Connected Built-in Navigation" (free when I bought the car in 2021) is about to expire.

I never use the built-in navigation, only CarPlay. Is there anything important I'll lose if I let this expire? I've seen some people here say that this is required for preconditioning. Is that true? Are there any other downsides?

When it expires you won't get map updates, real time traffic info, POI updates etc.

Map and POI updates will include new charging stations. So you won't be able to select those new charging stations to precondition your battery for optimal DCFC.

If you don't DCFC often, then it may not be a big deal to you.

We charge 99% of the time at home or on free L2 charging so we almost never use DCFC, thus not being able to precondition doesn't affect us. Thus I let it expire and just use carplay or android auto and google maps.

It's all personal preference, but I don't DCFC that often, but I did renew my connected navigation. I like having updates for chargers if I do need them, as well as the real-time traffic information. As compared to other charges from Ford, renewing connected nav is not that expensive. You can use your FordPass points to renew this, if you choose to. That's what I did.

Assuming I get my 30k points for the recall (they gave me 1 point!), will that be enough to cover this? I don't really have much use for points otherwise.

Points are worth 1/2 cent. Math is easy.

I let mine expire.... I hardly ever use DCFC, and would probably use Plugshare and ABRP to plan a trip anyway.

I am pissed off that the native mapping doesn't update, which seems ridiculous since it's based off google maps, right? But if I'm going to an area where I want real-time I can switch to AAuto, or just use my phone map to the side.

no frigging way I'll pay for software updates on features I really don't ever use. Like BlueCruise.... never used it, never will, and would have preferred a lower cost vehicle with fewer sensors/cameras and 'assist' features that I would rather not have.
