I swear the front glass has got to be made out of eggshells. I was in my car driving with my family and I swatted at a bug that was flying in my car. I smacked it against the front windshield and it cracked! I had no rings on, nothing in my hand, just the back of my hand against the glass. The stupid bug even lived! That level of impact in NO WAY should have caused the glass to break. If the glass can break that easily, I consider it as unsafe and faulty for all intents and purposes. That or I need to sign up for the UFC. Has anyone else had similar experiences, and would this be covered under the vehicle warranty or am I going to have to go through insurance?
Historically, the dealer would look for evidence of an impact (chip) and deny warranty if found. Often a ballpoint pen would be run along the crack(s) to see if any divot was evident. If no impact damage was found, it could be warranty due to stress fracture / improper install, etc.

In your case, if there is no impact damage, you *might* be able to get a warranty claim approved.

I test drove a charcoal gray MME dealer car with 700 miles on it. I really liked the color with the dark pony package. The next week when I went back to look at it again, it had a badly cracked windshield and the dealer had no idea how it happened. I decided to buy a vapor blue one on the lot instead. Is this a common problem do you suppose?

In 1st year with Mach-E: 5 chip repairs and 1 replacement due to a nickle sized chip.
2020 Honda Clarity for 2 years and not a scratch (until it was written off in an accident!).
2010 GT500 for 11 years (220,000 km) - 2 chip repairs and 3 windshield replacements.
2005 GT for 4 years - 2 chip repairs and 0 replacements.
All the above on same roads here...

Common problem?

No. Why would you think that?

See above. The crack in the gray one ran the entire length of the windshield top to bottom.

So a vehicle has a cracked windshield, that a clueless dealer employee doesn't know how it occurred, and that leads you to thinking it's a common problem?

Cracks, left untreated, will spread with vibration, temperature changes, etc. Normal. That's why you get them repaired if they are small enough.

Agreed, it just seems that a lot of people here seem to have had that same problem.

So an update - the service manager took some photos and reached out to Ford. They came back in record time stating more or less that I was lying, it was an external strike which caused the damage, and that I should have Ford and ONLY Ford glass put back in as a replacement. All this from a few rather poor quality cell phone photos. I wasn't sure what else to expect, but "F you, give us more money" makes me mad every time. I'll be going through insurance and getting things taken care of there, hopefully without any further "F you, give us more money" aside from my deductible.

I did my replacement with generic glass from Safelite. It's been fine for several months. Only gripe is the cost they charged for "calibration" was something like 40% of the total cost and pretty sure it took them like 3-minutes to calibrate.
