I have had my 2025 premium extended range AWD for almost 2 weeks now. I have been playing with various features and everything has been great so far.

The question I have is when I set a scheduled departure time, when does preconditioning start?

For the first week it was always 60 minutes before. But over the past week when checking the app about a hour before hand, it had not started. After seeing some posts about scheduled departure times being very unreliable, I thought I was running into Issues.

However thinking things through the first week I had the car we had temperatures of -10c to - 15c, and over the past week we have had a Chinook that has brought temperatures of around 5c to 10c.

So does the car take outside temperature/battery temperature/cabin temperature and adjust how long it does the preconditioning cycle for?

Short answer: Yes, the car takes the outside air temperature and current pack temperature into account when deciding whether to start battery preconditioning. 😁🐩

With a departure time set, the Ford OEM spec is to warm the battery to 59f. IF the battery temperature is at or above 59f, no further warming occurs.

So as I understand this, my car is garaged and temp in garage is typically above 59f. If that is the case then setting a departure time will not precondition the battery?

a follow up question would be at work. I don’t plug in and our temps are now starting to get to below 40 daily. There is no precondition of battery if NOT plugged in? is this correct?

Definitely seems to depend on the battery temp and how long it calculates it needs to hit 59F....

When only moderately cold out and I've driven it later in the day before (35-45f or so), I've had it start as little as 25-30 minutes before departure....

Last night it was much colder out (9F), and the car had sat from 12noon yesterday until departure at 7:15am this morning, and it started heating 51 minutes before departure... 🤷‍♂️

@HuntingPudel is correct. Note that charging battery - not warming - is priority. Consequently, set a departure time that starts after the estimated/displayed charging completion time.

So the problem I have been having is the car cabin isn’t warming up. It seems to pick and choose when and which day it starts climate. I have it set for 6:25am M-F and sometimes it goes on and sometimes it doesn’t. Frustrating

That would be frustrating. The only time that happened with me was when we lived wayyyyy out in the country and our internet signal came through a direct line-of-site radio signal about 15 miles away. Sometimes that signal was weak enough that our home router could not generate a wifi signal strong enough to reach our garage. We began setting departure times within the MME itself.

Here is my point: Investigate your home wifi signal. Make sure it is strong enough to reach your car. That said, once the departure time schedule is set - as you did - the home wifi signal should not matter.
