I have a different take. What are you driving needs? Are you happy with the state of the current in-cabin tech? Do you value reliability?

There is a lot to be gained by buying the 5th model year of a given generation of car. All the kinks have been worked out. All the improvements that can be made, have been made. Not to mention the mache remains one of the best looking cars on the market even 5 years later.

In the 2025, you get the 2nd gen rear motor, and a better tuned suspension, for a price substantially lower than for first few years. Plus all the changes they made along the way. You have to deal with none of the recalls of the early years, and the software will be as up to date as possible.

You can always wait….and wait…..and wait. And you never know if the future will include the things you want (like CarPlay). Maybe the next gen will look more like a Tesla to maximize efficiency and peoples’ unnecessary obsession with range. In the end, it’s still a car. If you need a car in the near future and this car works for your use case, go for it.

I am speaking as a 23.5 GTPE owner and a ā€˜24 Lightning owner. I don’t regret not waiting for the next gen. In fact, I wouldn’t buy the first year of the next gen for the very reasons I discussed above.
Exactly- that’s why I waited until 2024 to get my MME.

I'm finally ready to take the plunge on a 2025, but they seem to be in limbo. The two dealers closest to me have what I want listed in their inventory, but they've been "in transit" for weeks. A rep from one of the dealers told me that theirs was on hold in Mexico and not shipping anytime soon. Is there a production issue waiting to be corrected? Or maybe they're frozen with the uncertainty about tariffs?
I'm not sure when job 1 started but our first one is scheduled to be built this week. If a dealer website says it's in transit then it should be in its way to the dealer. Usually takes 4 weeks to arrive.

Thanks, that's very helpful. The ones I'm looking at have been "in transit" at least since I started seriously looking a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully that means they won't take too much longer to arrive.

For me, the big reason why I want a 2025 is the heat pump. I do at least one cold weather road trip each year to visit family over the holidays in areas that have poor CCS fast charging infrastructure.

I contacted ford by phone to check on when they start arriving at dealers and they told me that the 2025s where on indefinite hold with no reason given as of Feb 28 2025.

There have been ā€œissuesā€ with their paperwork, so the Mustang herd is taking the matter into their own hands. Picture from the US-Mexico border. They’ll be here soonā„¢. :p

Probably trying to get them to cross the border on a day that doesn’t cost 25% more than another day.

Since Tariff has been delayed until April, now is the time.

I spoke to my local dealer because I want to upgrade to a 2025. I also wanted to order now before the tariffs return (my theory is that they never will because prices will rise dramatically and that is politically untenable to our president). I was told that In Transit really meant "put on hold, not shipping yet." Reason: Ford is trying to navigate the tariff issue. Also, dealers aren't allowed to take orders. Just sit and wait.

A new car is a luxury purchase.

You can’t logic a luxury purchase.

If logic drove all your purchases, no one would eat out for dinner, no one would fly first class or stay in a hotel. And no one would ever buy a new car.
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Somebody has to buy a car new in order for it to be a used car for someone else. @SonicBlue has some valid points, but they don’t apply to everyone or every situation. Not all of us are looking to maximize the lowest cost deal at this given moment. And there is still value to be had in buying new.

But maybe the OP wants ventilated seats. ?ā€ā™‚
Ventilated seats, heat pump, newly tuned suspension, new red/magenta color and lower MSRP making it effectively the same price as a discounted ā€˜24. That’s why we ordered our ā€˜25 MME. And in another 3 to 6 years, give or take, it can be someone else’s used bargain purchase.

In-cabin tech being old? Well, yeah, itā€˜s effectively identical my Lightning that is over 2 years old and I’m still satisfied with it. What else are they going to give us? Even if they give us something completely new and amazing, it’s still going to be auto industry tech that’s going to feel stale compared to the newest iPad or whatnot. I’ve owned Teslas for 9 years and they arguably have the best software and integration and it’s still clunky in many ways. Both CarPlay and Android Auto handle messaging, calendar and other things better than Tesla. What Tesla excels at is having full Google Maps and navigation localized and fully integrated along with a few of their third party app choices.
