HI all, done a search but the results are mostly install related.

Which dash cam did you go with and why please? I'm trying to work out which one would be best to get installed without spending hours researching, a few pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

VIOFO , I’ve gone through many dash cams and figured out that it’s better to stay away from cameras with built in batteries. The heat inside a closed car will eventually cause the battery and the camera to self destruct. I’ve had a VIOFO cameras in my cars for many trouble free years.

FitcamX - I wanted the integrated look and no hassle wiring. Downside is that it is basic - no GPS, no parking mode. But for recording while driving it does the job.

2nd the VIOFO. Cheap and easy. Get the hard wire install kit and never worry about it again.

I went Viofo and I'm very pleased with it.

Paired with the dongar adapter and it's a super clean install.

BlackVue. That is what the installer always uses. Regardless of brand, be careful about your privacy rights. There have been issues.

I just put one of those cheap $22 TikTok dash cams on the car and I pretty much mounted it anywhere I wanted on the windshield. I thought I read on here one time before you could only put it in a certain spot on my car, I don’t know it doesn’t matter where I put it. It works so I remember in the beginning when the Integrated one was designed it was if you put in a different dash cam you had to put it in a certain spot on the windshield. But I’m not an issue. Like I said, I can’t remember, but was that not brought up that you can only put it in a certain spot on the windshield?

The "special spot" is just for cams that have cellular connectivity. Those need to be mounted such that their antennae are in the black spots on the windshield. The rest of the glass attenuates the signal. ??

I got a FitcamX (4K front/2K rear) and their fuse box wiring kit. I wired to the fuse box to make sure that I wouldn't be overloading the rain sensor's circuit. I like the integrated look. It doesn't have networking, so I can't monitor the camera when I am not in the car. Doesn't much matter. The car is never far from me. ??

I would suggest that you put together a list of the features you want first. Then go looking at cameras that have those features. Once you've narrowed that list down, take a look at the quality and reliability of those and choose from there. ??

Thank you I was just looking for a camera that record someone pulling in front of me. It can see through the back window a little bit, but if something happens in front of me, that’s really all I want and it records it on an SD card and that’s what this one does

Another quick question the rear right 12 V outlet. Will it go off after a certain amount of time or is it always hot?
