My car often switches to Engage on startup despite having all the updates that should have fixed the drive mode not available bug (I've also seen it pop up a couple of times recently still)

Today my car showed some new confusion. The APIM color scheme is that of Unbridle, IPC was doing the Unbridle animation, but APIM thinks it's on Engage. How is this so hard for Ford to get right after 4 years.

I've noticed mine being in Engage instead of Unbridle in the recent weeks. I suspect an update did that.

Switch the drive mode to something else then back again. See if that clears it up.

It popped up the "Dive Mode Not Available Message" a few times. Then it finally stuck.

While I kept getting occasional issues with the car forcing itself into Engage on startup for ever (and the brake pedal being stiff), it got noticeably worse since I did the the BCM (24-PU0121-FTDI-FX equivalent) and APIM (6.14 equivalent) updates using FDRS in March.

I just don't understand how this drive mode selection system is still so buggy after all these years.

It's not the HVB degradation that worries me about this car lasting. It's the lack of robustness in the overall set of systems and Ford's continuing lack of having a handle on this (see the recent 1PD spectacle).

Oh, I forced that update myself using FDRS.

Someone needs to come out with a rental website for Mongoose or VCM 3 cables and FDRS licenses. Can't bring myself to buy one.
Don’t forget a good regulated power supply. The FDRS license isn’t expensive for a 2 day shot. Basically, you’re renting a license for 2 days from Ford. ??
