"Drive mode unavailable"

I have got that as well a few times, almost always the day off or after an update. It happens for the one day and then it’s fine. I told the Ford people about it at the recent meetup in DC, they seemed unaware of it.

Has been happening much more lately. Must be tied to a recent update.
Always drive in Unbridled mode, and when it drops it goes into Engaged mode.
However, it can be switched back to Unbridled while driving.

2023 CR1 - I've had it 6 weeks now and usually drive in Engage. I've been in Unbridle more often lately and had this error 3 times on a short trip using it today. It was 60 degrees, I was doing about 45mph, and in the middle of a short trip to drop the kids off. I got the error on 3 separate times within 2-3 miles and felt the pedal shift with the mode change. Temperature definitely was not a factor.

I've not noticed it for about a month myself. Not really sure what has changed. It's definitely colder in the Seattle area. Wetter. That's about it.

I haven't had an update for a long time now and this has started happening, I would say about once a week. When it does occur it happens more than once, i.e. it drops to mode not functioning then I can switch it back to unbridled after a short while but the error soon reoccurs.

Drive modes have been unavailable for me several times a month since this past summer. It always defaults to Engage and then takes a while before it goes back to normal. That's the only thing that seems typical. Sometimes it clears itself in a couple minutes or just one key cycle. Other times the other modes are unavailable all day and it doesn't clear up until the next day. I've never had it persist for more than 24 hours. Recently however there has been a change. I've been getting the 6 series OTA's. I'm up to 6.4 now and sometime around 6.3 the error warning about the drive mode also went away. A no news is good news situation I guess. The modes are still unavailable. It still defaults to Engage, but there's no error message. I feel the throttle or regen change now or see the driver display change, but no error message. I can go to the control screen in sync to confirm it's stuck in Engage but then have to wait for it to go back to normal. Wish it could be fixed.

Just had this pop up on 6.2 I feel the like update behavior you mentioned is even worse since there's no notification on whats going on, just a sudden change in the car's driving feel

I’ve experienced the same issue as I usually drive in whisper mode.

Same just happened to me today. First time. Still on software version 6.0

Sometimes to “fix” this, select whisper first then you can get back into unbridle

I had this happen a couple of times in one day last week. I was driving in whisper & suddenly felt a change in driving feel & a blue rectangle flashed on the screen of the center console saying “drive mode unavailable” which lasted literally for half a second and then the driving field changed again and the blue warning disappeared. I am puzzled by how whisper mode can be unavailable when that is the most dialed back mode already. This happened so fast that really, I didn’t find it dangerous but a little unnerving and distracting. I’ll have to check and see what software version I’m on at this time because I’ve been ignoring it lately. WTF?
