Window switch peeling?

My "OK" button is chipping too. It's 202x. It's one of those things that other manufacturers have figured out for years. Supply Chain Steve was probably able to show they could save 0.002 a unit by going with these buttons and switches.

I love my MME, and if I had 100k on it, this type of thing would not drive me nuts, but it's a pricey vehicle, with average mileage, and a button I don't use religiously.

As DR.J56 mentioned above, Ford has released a CSP 22N17 for the 2020-21 Explorers for this. They will do a one-time replacement of all 7 window switches. They will do it within 10 years or 150,000 miles.

My guess is we will see one of these for the Mach-E also.

Seems like a serious rookie mistake by one of the oldest car companies in the world...strange.

Unfortunately it seems to happen all the time with car companies.

My old Infiniti G35 sedan had a “soft touch“ material on the steering wheel, switches and door handles. Even the slightest touch with a fingernail peeled it off. They changed vendors in later model years and replaced under warranty.

My guess is during COVID and supply chain disruptions, lots of vendor changes for parts happened.
Here is what the Infiniti wheel peeling looked like:

The light grey around the buttons is supposed to be all black. Peeled off like it was Plastidip.

I went to the dealer and he thought they have already issued a service bulletin on it…but it was only on other Ford models. We are both sure that recall will be expanded to include the MME.

Our 2020 Escape had the same problem, and we were amazed they even had the switch in stock. than a couple weeks later we received a CSR (or what ever they call it) telling us the window switches has a 10 year warranty on them now because of the chrome pealing. and its sharp, My wife cut her fingers.

I ended up with a small paper cut too…

After I went to the dealership today to get it recorded, I folded the thin foil back and broke them off. The edge of the two switches on the driver door are white- but harmless.

I asked them to fix it, along with another front camera fault that they could not replicate, a faulty stock charger that they could not replicate the orange light with, and a second key fob request. At least I got the free key fob. My car has 37,000 miles on it, and since I waited to get the window switches looked at, the dealer said I am out of luck. Hoping for a recall.

FWIW, the orange light doesn’t mean your charger is broken, just overheated.

And as you know, when you’re out of warranty, and no extended warranty, you’re out of luck.

I don’t imagine the window switches are expensive, probably worth just buying new ones.

It won't be a recall because it's not a safety issue. But it could be a CSP.

FWIW, the orange light doesn’t mean your charger is broken, just overheated.

And as you know, when you’re out of warranty, and no extended warranty, you’re out of luck.

I don’t imagine the window switches are expensive, probably worth just buying new ones.

I wonder why the charger sometimes overheats on a cool evening within a minute of being used? Replacements have lasted a few months before doing this. I am on my third one. Gonna get another charger now, since they will not replace it anymore.

No clue. When that happens just unplug the charger from the wall to reset it and it seems to work fine.

And if you’ve burned out 3 chargers in just a few months, it’s possible it’s the wiring at your home and not the chargers.

Well, on my 2022 MME the problem got so bad that the windows don't work any more. Driver's window is stuck in the fully open position. Which is a security and weatherproofing issue at least. The power console buttons have just splintered, and the windows have stopped responding. Pretty incredible for such an expensive car.

What did your dealer say?

Sounds like simply a failed switch. Not a peeling issue.

My dealer replaced my switch with the peeling switches under warranty. I would think they should replace the switch under warranty.
