A Closer Look at the Mach-E GT Performance Seats

Hi MME owners - following the survey results I have been spending time quietly making my way around the company talking to different folks who have stories to tell about how our electric pony came to be. This is the first story I have uncovered, the fruits of my labor, and I have more coming.

If you own a Mustang Mach-E GT Performance, the seats tell one of the most interesting design stories in the entire vehicle.

When the GT Performance was developed, the team elevated the materials and introduced several features that felt genuinely advanced for their time. The seats became one of the clearest places where that effort showed.

Some highlights include:

Reflective scrim backing that adds both visual and functional value.
Laser-etched lattice textures created through precise manufacturing processes rather than simple printed patterns.
Suede texture surfaces chosen for performance as much as appearance.

That last point is especially interesting. The suede texture isn't there solely to create a premium look and feel. It also helps improve grip. During spirited driving, that extra support helps keep the driver planted in the seat. It's a great example of form and function working together.

What's impressive is that these design choices still feel modern years later. Many materials and trends that seem innovative at launch quickly become dated. These haven't.

GT Performance owners, share a photo of your seats if you can, especially if the lighting highlights the lattice texture. And did you know the suede served a performance purpose, or did you always assume it was mainly about appearance?

The retroreflective scrim backing has caught my eye a few times since getting the car - very subtle and definitely very interesting!

I like the seats, but my wife thinks the headrests are too firm, and they don't adjust. I "alter" my driving style when she's in the car.

Hi Brian--thanks for the report!

We noticed the seats--and other interior materials choices--when we first received our new 2024 Mach E GT (it was shipped to us from a neighbor island in Hawaii, so we didn't see it in advance) last year and were and are very impressed. Only concern is how to properly care for the suede?I have decades of successfully taking good care of leather seats, but do you have a recommendation for suede seat care?

We have been pleasantly surprised by many things in the Mach E GT so far. And very much appreciate your attention room to the community at trying to get things right for us when there's a problem.

I'd have bought the GT, had they come with ventilated seats. I hate that you can't get a GT with vented seats almost as much as I hate the fact that you can barely find a GT or Premium WITHOUT that #@$! sunroof.

Why can't they make a car people want instead of forcing us to either get things we don't want or artificially restrict us from the things we do want?

I'm particularly irritated because we are in the market for a second EV, and it's really hard to find an MME that matches what we want. Ford CAN do it; they just chose not to do it.

Really a copy of my daughter's sports seats in her 12 Challenger SRT8 392 and the reason I bought the first GT Performance sent to PA. 5 years now it's a master piece of over engineering perfection. No range loss, costs 2 sets of tires cabin air filter rear wiper blade and 12v battery test positive. I know a comfortable seat as a 78 senior with degenerative lower back discs I can drive comfortably in both for hours. Not so in other cars.

We bought a used GT and the suede has seen better days. I gave them a good cleaning but certain areas I fear will never be like new. Over all we find the seats very comfortable and I do appreciate how the material prevents you from slipping. I do wish I could get one of those tablet holders for the back seat passengers that clip to a headrest.

I have a 26GT on the way. I hope I like the seats as much as you all describe. I had a 22GT non-PE edition and loved those seats. I was also able to get a hard-top versus glass top and have gone the same route with my 26.
