I ordered the original Typhoon the day I picked up my Mach E, June 23rd and swapped my order to the Pro on July 8. It finally arrived Aug 20th. Not a great start, but everyone raves about how good quality the original Typhoon is so I was willing to hang in there and give it a go.
It arrived while I was on vacation, so I tired it the morning after we got back home and all I can say is it worked flawlessly!
First time using a Tesla Supercharger with the Mach E so was a little apprehensive, especially with the closest one to me always being packed. I ended up having to park halfway into the next stall rather than taking up the full next stall over. Thankfully it was fairly quiet at the location at 7:30am so I didn’t get any glares from taking up two stall.
I was unsure of how the “Plug & Charge” would work, but I had no need to worry. Within 10-15 seconds of plugging the adapter into the car, then the cable into the adapter, it started charging. No interactions needed on my part, just like charging a Tesla.
The build quality seems to be pretty robust, the thing is heavy! The latch is fairly simple to use, it’s essentially a two stage button, push down lightly to release the CCS port, then push down harder to release the NACS cable. Super simple.
Overall, very pleased with it and looking forward to some cheap charging. (Tesla is $0.26/kWh, next cheapest is BC Hydro at $0.35/kWh - all in CAD). I did the math and with the rates in Metro Vancouver, I would have to use approx. 1600km/1000mi of Supercharger charging per month to break even with the subscription ($0.05/kWh discount). So I will probably only sign up for that when going on a road trip where I can take full advantage of the discount.
