I ordered the original Typhoon the day I picked up my Mach E, June 23rd and swapped my order to the Pro on July 8. It finally arrived Aug 20th. Not a great start, but everyone raves about how good quality the original Typhoon is so I was willing to hang in there and give it a go.

It arrived while I was on vacation, so I tired it the morning after we got back home and all I can say is it worked flawlessly!

First time using a Tesla Supercharger with the Mach E so was a little apprehensive, especially with the closest one to me always being packed. I ended up having to park halfway into the next stall rather than taking up the full next stall over. Thankfully it was fairly quiet at the location at 7:30am so I didn’t get any glares from taking up two stall.

I was unsure of how the “Plug & Charge” would work, but I had no need to worry. Within 10-15 seconds of plugging the adapter into the car, then the cable into the adapter, it started charging. No interactions needed on my part, just like charging a Tesla.

The build quality seems to be pretty robust, the thing is heavy! The latch is fairly simple to use, it’s essentially a two stage button, push down lightly to release the CCS port, then push down harder to release the NACS cable. Super simple.

Overall, very pleased with it and looking forward to some cheap charging. (Tesla is $0.26/kWh, next cheapest is BC Hydro at $0.35/kWh - all in CAD). I did the math and with the rates in Metro Vancouver, I would have to use approx. 1600km/1000mi of Supercharger charging per month to break even with the subscription ($0.05/kWh discount). So I will probably only sign up for that when going on a road trip where I can take full advantage of the discount.

Congrats and enjoy!

I have the original Typhoon that I've used ~50 times with only a small learning curve on the first use understanding how to deal with the NACS side slide latch. The remaining uses were all very easy and natural.

I just received the new Typhoon Pro yesterday and am looking forward to using it soon. It's a little sad that it's both longer and quite a bit heavier than the original, but I'll get used to it. I certainly expect it will be easier than the original.

I'm very pleased to hear this. I'm driving from Whitehorse down to Vancouver in a couple of weeks and I'll be relying on the Typhoon Pro for at least some of my charges. Thanks for the report!

I have never gotten plug + charge to work properly. Do you need to first plug the adapter into your car and then plug the tesla cable into the adapter? (Plug & Charge works for me at EA stations)

Plug and Charge won't work unless you car got the update from Ford.

A2Z advises to plug the adapter into the car, then the cable into the adapter. It doesn't matter though.

Huh, the instructions say to do the other way around. Maybe that'll do it. Otherwise yeah. At least I can still start a charge from the tesla/fordpass app.
I think my 12V battery was on the fritz so now that that's replaced maybe I'll actually get OTAs

A2Z's instructions for the Typhoon Pro explicitly instructs to plug the adapter into the car first, then connect the Supercharger lead to the adapter. This is in contrast to the one from Ford, where they advise to attach to the lead, then plug in to the car.

Huh, weird. I don't have the pro, I have the original. I'll try that out.

I don't know if matters. I used the Ford adapter about an hour ago and I plugged it into the charge port first, and then i plugged in the Tesla handle. I charged flawlessly from 13% to 81%.

As others have mentioned, the instructions state plug into car, then cable into adapter. That is what I did and it worked first time.

Not sure if I have the update or not as Superchargers do not appear under the list of chargers I can navigate to.

The Plug and Charge update is separate from the Ford navigation system. It still does not show Tesla chargers. The Charging app in the car does show them. (Yes, dumb.) The down side is that the car will not precondition the battery because only the native navigation will do that. ??
