I decided to try out Chargeway+. I wrote up a review. It asks the question, should a Mustang Mach-e owner pay for Chargeway+.

The full review is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pGFqioy7zMeWU4dCk_7PfemoEM8Z66rUANwJif96WSY/edit?usp=sharing

Happy to take questions.

The short version of the review
Chargeway+ is a subscription plan to Chargeway. For five dollars a month, you see real-time pricing, some car telemetry, and you can stop and start charging through the Chargeway app. As of October 2025, however, the value is in real-time pricing.

Chargeway+ has thoughtful phrasing and a deep understanding of the “normie” user. It’s more delightful to use than PlugShare, ABRP, and Apple Maps. You can use Chargeway (without the plus) to experience the company’s design and judge for yourself. The plus gets you more. See https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/chargeway-app.49902/

Charegeway+ Isn’t for Most MME Owners, Yet
In November of 2025, I don’t think Chargeway+ is for most Mustang Mach-E Owners. It’s missing the network effects of Plugshare, the integration to the car from the Ford app, and familiar mapping software on your phone. It’s not worth $5 a month, yet.

It’s worth revisiting Chargeway+ in the future, however, because I think they’re going in the right direction. They’re simplifying trip planning, they’re making a first-class experience, and there should be one place where you check simplified pricing models. But more on that in the full review at the link.

I reached out to Chargeway about some of the current gaps. They’re aware of them and have them in the roadmap. So as the gaps close, it’s worth rethinking if Chargeway+ is worth your dollars.

If You Often Shop for DC Fast Charging, Maybe It’s for You
The main addition to Chargeway+, over Chargeway without the plus, is real-time pricing and some clever user experience to help you understand the total cost. If you’re often shopping for DC Fast Charging based on price, rather than charging from home or prioritizing convenience, then try Chargeway+. It could be for you.

A Personal Note about my Chargeway Experience
Regardless of Chargeway+, I am a convert to Chargeway (without the plus). It’s on my phone now, and I plan to contribute to the community. I’ll also watch Chargeway+ and my own driving habits.

Nice write up, I read through the full doc, really in depth review. Appreciate you going through this app and putting the plus version through it's paces.

I have a short trip from Tampa to Tallahassee next month, I'll try out on the road.

Google has recently added the real-time status for EA and Tesla, so now they have that for all charging networks. I think it is just a matter of time before they also integrate pricing into Google maps. Google already also has charger ratings, just like Plugshare. And they have the Waze incident reporting. For vehicles with Google maps built in you can also do the trip planning in Google maps on your phone.

I really do not want to have to deal with another app.

This is a point that I make in the longer review.

It’s hard to unseat the mapping incumbents. We’re all habituated to using our phones to navigate, and Ford has done a good integration with both. Still, as an Apple user, I’d like Apple to learn something about user-centric design from Chargeway.
It’s hard to beat the surveillance economy. You get the Google goodies in exchange for ads perfectly beamed to you. You can have an opinion about whether tracking data for kWh prices is a good or bad exchange, but it’s a working model and our maps are familiar.

I’m glad someone else is at it too. Google has a history of forgetting about its services. It’s hard for me to imagine Google Maps suffering a Google messaging service fate, but I can see how Google might ignore the EV features later.

2025 Mach-E
I will definitely read your review today. I had the problem with Chargeway that every time I linked my Mach-E to it, I'd have to reset my Ford account password.
