Not sure if I really like it. It's definitely unique. Good thing I don't have to stare at it.

It's great. What a good idea! I always loved the sequential signals back since the 1964 Thunderbird! A lot of cars seem to be headed this way with signals but AFAIK Ford did it first! Well done.

Not sure why they didn't do both top and bottom but it is unique and Mustang-like.

It’s just a shutter effect from the camera, it’s actually completely solid on the red and a lot smoother on the amber.

That looks like blinking from a frame rate issue like a lot of lights do when filming. But could be wrong cause if emergency flasher they both would be the amber orange light

Maybe the brake lights are on, so only the bottom half is showing the turn?

This has to do with regulations in certain countries where it is not permitted to have the regular taillight function to disappear while the blinker is on. The current sequential red blinker function on the US spec real Mustang does not comply with this and that is why Ford developed an export spec variation (the clear ones) without the sequential option for cars that are sold outside the US or Canada.

Now they have designed a universal solution that has sequential blinking and still complies with all regulations worldwide. They managed to do this by splitting the vertical chambers in a top and a bottom half and using the bottom halves for amber sequentials (instead of red) while keeping the regular or brake lights in the top halves active while blinking. The horizontal tracer line connects the 3 blinker chambers, so they can be regarded as one unit, which is also required in certain markets for a sequential blinker to be legal. It's actually a very clever design and deletes the need for market specific parts.

I still remeber the sequential turn lights on my brother's 1972 Mercury Cougar. I don't know if Ford had any vehicle before the Cougar with sequential lights. BTW, the system was mechanical. In the car you can hear the relays switching on and off. I attempted to design a pure electronic version with UJTs at thet time while I was in Engineering college (UJT = Unijuction Transistor for the laypersons). Now I can use a microcontroller, such as the Arduino, to do the switching and LEDs for the lamps.

One of the best features, highly visible multi segment amber lights with animation. Many vehicles have poorly viable signal lights, too low or too small/dim.

Hopefully they are more reliable than the turn signals on most cars on the road. After all, those millions of cars that turn without signaling can't all be bad drivers, right? ;)
