I assume they were talking about the MEB platform, which Ford has never said was used for the Mach E. The MEB is intended to be used for a future europe-only vehicle

While Munro talks about Tesla's "elegant engineering" with regard to a single cable, he completely ignores this kind of "elegant engineering."

I just can't get over that thermal management assembly. Who approved that design?

I'm sure that Ford will be watching Sandy's videos on the Mach-e to get some free advice on how to improve. Sandy does provide one perspective but it would be interesting to hear from Ford as to why those decisions were made. I'm guessing economies of scale due to standardized parts?

Can someone clarify one thing for me: he keeps talking about the induction motor in the front, but Ford is advertising that they are using PM motors front and back. Does anybody know if this is limited to the GT models only?

well, the tesla thermal design isn't as clean as you imagined or what being claimed either.
Oh I'm not comparing it to anything particular, but more from an engineering perspective. I haven't designed the thermal management system into any EVs, but that SERIOUSLY can't be the most elegant and cost-effective way of doing it.

Grade A on the rear suspension. Sandy adds: 9 out of 10 overall.

Get to see the bouncy bits
oh, Id4 is built like tesla, But why isn't the mache built like the ID4 isn't supposed to be? Oh, sandy I don't know why> maybe because the mache is all on it's on fellows if you listen to ford from the start.

Again sandy and his crew make some good points but also get lost at times. The mache is really different in a lot of ways from all the other BEVs. Time will tell if it was really needed or if it was not needed to do some extra things.

The more I hear sandy say well ford couldn't just do this and saved money makes me thankful down the road maybe they didn't cut corners.

One thing that is great about the mache batteries compared to tesla is the recyclability.

That's just the old man having trouble telling cars apart from Tesla. Ford has said the AWD has pm motors front and back.

As far as I know they are all PM motors which are more torque dense. I believe Tesla uses induction motors on the front because they have less losses (and less regen capability) under light loads or coasting.

It is apparent however that Sandy does no research ahead of these video and missates things all the time. I assume some of his crew knows better but they rarely correct him on video. They should have know the rear motor is designed and built by Borg Warner as there was a whole press release on it. Actually Jalopnik did a really good deep dive on the mach e back in 2019 that would have been good for them to read.

Also the joint venture with VW on the MEB was announced way into the Mach E development and is purely a commercial transaction of trading some MEB capacity that VW has for Ranger and Van capacity that Ford has. Higher plant utilizations means more profit for both automakers and faster time to market with new products vs retooling their own plants that might still be winding down older models.

And ease of assembly which can be a huge cost saver
The previous video when they had the battery open made and now how the front assembly drops out makes me think ford is a company that has cars still on the road built over 50 years ago. They may just understand the long game on products. Swapping power plants of battery cells will be a think in a decade for 1st, 2nd and 3rd owners.
