Temporary, for now, ban on overwater EV shipments to Alaska

Every overwater shipping firm has banned the shipment of EV’s to Alaska based on the recent cargo ship fire and sinking near the Aleutians. At this time there is no regular overland shipment of vehicles to Alaska and I doubt there will be much interest in shipment for just EV’s. Not to mention the additional price increase. Our local Ford dealer was not enthusiastic about selling EV’s and had opted out of the program but were now being required to order one per month. I do not see them pushing to ship any Mach’s or Lightning’s up the Alaska Highway! Hopefully this will be just a temporary ban on shipping or I may end up purchasing my 22GT when my Option contract is up.

Who wants to transport things that can catch fire and cause major damage?

Once again with EVs, it’s not the frequency of the fire but the intensity and difficulty to extinguish. Hopefully with technological advancements this will be something they’ll solve.

Or maybe for Alaska you can get vehicles by rail or transport for now.

No rail to Alaska. Maybe they will workout ground transportation but just for the limited demand for EV’s - not too sure if that will occur. Perhaps for the Rivian and Tesla orders but that will certainly add to the price. I doubt dealers will go that route. I am hoping something gets worked out over time.

The Alaska Ferry will still allow two per ship so you can still purchase in Seattle and get one up to Juneau fairly easily. Juneau has quite a few EV’s - Fairbanks not so much.

Pasha as well. This is old news for Hawaii. Matson temporarily suspended shipping EVs and PHEVs to Hawaii 6 weeks ago.

That leaves Pasha atm. They have RORO and can pump copious amounts of water onto EVs or PHEVs and can puncture the battery pack to inject water that way if needed.

In the meantime, shipping prices are higher.

Have you checked Kendall Ford of Soldotna? I purchased my 25 MME from Kendall of Anchorage and no one had the model/color my son wanted and then remembered Soldotna's dealership. They had the 25 Premium w/sport appearance package in molten magenta he wanted in stock. They actually have quite a few colors/trims available in the 25 MME's.

I am not looking for one at the moment. Our local dealer actually has three Mach’s on the lot. I just hope something gets worked out for the future so I can order a new one next year.
