While attending the everything electric expo I was chatting with some Ford reps while looking at the 2025 Mach-E. I was talking about my 2021 and how OTA updates really improved the vehicle.

They mentioned that they were just briefed on an upcoming OTA update to the Mach-E software interface planned for September/October but couldn’t say much else. It had me wondering if it was an update for 2021-2024 models to bring the interface up to match the 2025’s or something else entirely.

Has anyone heard something similar?

I’m more than mildly skeptical.

I’ve been led to believe that the pre 25s can’t run the 2025 UI due to hardware limitations. So odds are we’re not getting that. So what are they going to break this time? All hypothetical of course.

I also learned from dealing with this stuff in the airline business that it’s best not to F- with UIs. You never get the reaction you expect and you generally end up with a lot of pissed off people. Witness the loss of the classic no ADAS IPC screen with OTA 6.8.

I also think Ford is pretty much done with messing with our 21s.

Lets hope that Ford is done messing with the screen of the 2021. It's close enough to perfect. It took 4 years but i now have no major complaints. I hope that they leave it AS IS!
Perhaps a minor tweak here or there on the ipc, but I’d be hard pressed to name one I want. As for the main screen, leave well enough alone. I know one guy out here running the original UI. He turned updates off before they messed with the sync screen.

I’d love to get a UI refresh for my 2021. I think there’s still plenty of room for improvement. Especially the IPC. But I’d say the odds are somewhere between ā€œdoubtfulā€ and ā€œlol you gotta be kidding.ā€

I think at this point we got what we got and I can live with that for several more years. At 4.5 years and 68,000 miles, I thing I’ve wrung plenty of value out of my car and I still don’t think there’s anything available that’s materially a better value.

I'd like @Ford Motor Company to address bugs they've introduced in previous updates, such as:

  • Screen dimming is significantly delayed and overreactive to overpasses or other shadows
  • Audio clipping/stuttering while waiting for screens to load on SYNC
  • Inability to persistently disable Garmin myTrendsā„¢
  • Car starting in wrong drive mode
  • Occasional lean-right tendencies of BlueCruise (folks have observed this to be much better in BC 1.4 or later)
  • Ungraceful handling of curves in BlueCruise (folks have observed this to be much better in BC 1.4 or later)

What's Garmin myTrendsā„¢?

I do experience the other issues...

It's the "dole dole" you'll sometimes hear within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle. If navigation happens to be loaded and displayed on sync, then you'll see the navigation suggestion corresponding with the tones.

This morning for instance, I started the vehicle at home and it predicted that I wanted to navigate to work. It was correct, but I really want that feature disabled and the best I can do for now is occasionally clear its history by turning it off... It turns itself back on during the next key cycle.

Ah. I pretty much never use the built-in nav, so maybe that why I've not noticed, but I turned off that dumb feature years ago and AFAIK it's not resurfaced. (Unlike Battery Coach which acts like one of those birthday candles you can't ever truly blow out...)

My only complaint with my 21 is the drive mode constantly switching to Engage. I fixed that by just giving up the fight and leaving it in Engage. But, I miss the sweet sweet coast on the highway in Whisper...

Funny as heck. I downgraded my T/A's IPC since it came with a 6K tach and a 100mph speedo. I put an 8K tach and rebuilt/tuned 160mph speedo out of a '70-1/2 and just for kicks got rid of the Unleaded Fuel Only fuel gauge for the 1970 gauge too. 🤪🐩
