If you are looking for a way to skirt the issue of not paying Ford for upgrades to maps, it won't work. Just use Apple, Waze, or any other GPS app and ignore the Ford navigation.I have to ability to open maps on my iPhone, select a location and share it with my Tesla. Do we know when/if this will be available for Ford EVs?
You don't have to "transfer" it to your car. Just open Maps in Car Play in the car and navigate.I have to ability to open maps on my iPhone, select a location and share it with my Tesla. Do we know when/if this will be available for Ford EVs?
In my GM I am logged into Google Maps in the vehicle and it works just like Tesla. You can do the trip plan on the phone and send it to the vehicle. Recent searches show up too.I see GM is going to prevent you from using Car Play or Android Auto in their vehicles and they assume they can make a better in car interface than 15+ years of smart phones.
I remember being happy to see an Aux input with a factory stereo so I could connect my latest thinga-ma-music gadget in the vehicle

Ford is implementing Android Automotive Services in the next generation, it will then have this same feature. There is a thread about the new interface on this forum. Look up Ford Digital Experience.
Google maps app in the vehicle updates every few weeks with new features. For example, when GM got access to Tesla chargers, they showed up in less than 2 weeks on the map. Here we are with Ford, one year later and still not added.

It also allows you to download many apps from the Playstore, just like on your phone. That includes most music streaming apps, Plugshare, Waze, ABRP, etc. None of that is GM software, so it improves over time and is not connected to OTAs, just background updates like a phone.Interesting.
I was aware of "Android Automotive" being put in cars at the manufacturer level vs using Android Auto at the phone level. (Two similar names in typical Google fashion lol)
Most (click bait) articles said GM will not have Android Auto or Car Play in future vehicles but have left out the Android Automotive part.
Will check it out those threads, Thanks
