Cold Weather range is no joke

Well starting to get the first dose of cold weather in the area (30 and below) and man, you guys aren't kidding. Went from 88% to 65% with pretty much normal driving. Not truly worried since I charge at home and commutes are small but just wasn't expecting it. Does the heat pump really make that huge a of difference in the 25 model?

Battery temperature drops. I had 33.8f yesterday in 19f weather after 4 hours outdoors doing Sunday routines. Have photo but stupid site doesn't allow upload from my dumb phone.

I drove from TX to Idaho recently in my '25 MME and through a mountain pass it got down in the 20's where I stopped overnight. I didn't notice any particular degradation while I was in temperatures below 30 - range between charging stops was about the same (150-180 miles), always charged up to ~75% before I moved on and hit the next at 15-20%.

It was only in temps that low for a small part of the trip though, not your day-in day-out kind of situation for that cold. Now that I'm back home we're hitting down in the 30's for a cold snap and I'm still not noticing much change from warm weather driving.

By the time we hit Feb and it's freezing for days at a time will be the true test where I can get a proper set of expectations for the future.

If you have a regular departure time, set that up so your car will precondition the battery while plugged in ... this makes a huge difference in those early miles.

I'm also curious how much the heat pump will change things, but I don't think it'll make me wanna run out for a new model, lol.

Can't sympathize with you, it was 108 here yesterday in SoCal.

Last road trip I took was 7+ hours hovering around 30F. I decided to play around with the temperature settings, incrementing by 1 degree at a time, to see the impact on energy use via the Trip screen.

My point of equilibrium (energy impact vs. risk of hypothermia) landed at about 3% of battery use. Less heat made me feel colder than I wanted to be, and more heat didn't really make me feel substantially better given the tradeoff.

Yes, I even tried turning the heat off. I suppose with a blanket and the heated seats & steering wheel on you could do it, but this pony ain't pulling a carriage through Central Park.

So play around with the temp settings and see what happens...

I believe there was a thread started to have people report on the difference with the heat pump, but I haven’t seen seen it pop up lately so I think the jury is still out on this.

I have a 2025 but I would have to go up to Tahoe in the winter months to test that, and I’ve long ago gave up any intention to do so.
