Hi, all. Been a while since I've checked in. Looking for some thoughts from those who have upgraded.

My father passed away a few weeks ago, leaving an inheritance that would give me the ability to upgrade from my '22 eAWD premium to a '24 or '25 GTPE. He owned a pretty popular paint and body shop in my hometown, so there's lots of history with us and cars. As strange as it sounds, I would see the upgrade as a way to honor my dad and have him around. I couldn't justify the GTPE when I purchased my current MME because I don't drive a lot (I've had it since Oct 2022 and only have 7,364 miles on it), but now that the prices have dropped I'm seriously considering it. I love my current one and there are no issues with it, but I would love to have a smoother ride.

Is there a huge difference with the magnaride suspension? Are there any negatives (excluding financial reasons) that should stop me from considering this? If you've upgraded, would you do it again if something happened to your current one? Thoughts? Experiences?

Time to test drive

I love my 25 GT. Fun to drive, and basically drives itself (not in city centers or unmarked roads). I’ve put too many miles on it

However, only you can decide what’s important to you and if it’s worth while

Based on the low miles you have, and the tremendous hit that you would take on your car, I'd say this would be a poor use of your inheritance.

My biggest complaint with my premium is the rough ride. If I was going to upgrade, I would go with the rally. From what I understand it’s smoother than the gt, and not much more money. For about $2500, you can upgrade the suspension on the premium to be comparable with the rally.

Leaving everything out of the value equation except the suspension differences itself?

I would believe it is incredibly rare for someone to declare that Magnaride isn't a substantial improvement. It's not subtle, that's for sure.

There's a bunch of threads with owners upgrading the Premium suspension with Rally Springs and Eibach sway bars for a better ride.

I have a 24 premium AWD XR and it's suspension is stiffer than I'd like. Most likely going to do the suspension upgrade but wait until I have to replace my tires. (I want to add the GTPE wheels to my Premium)

I've recently test driven the Rally model with the magneride and the overall ride is noticeably better than the Premium. But the depreciation hit on our cars is significant.

I would say look into the suspension upgrades first, review some of the threads in this forum. Search "Rally Springs" and see that Mark Boris is the expert on this.

Throw a set of GTPE wheels on it and you're good to go. Search eBay for used ones or Levittown Ford and Lethal Performance usually have good prices on the GTPE wheels full set in my searching.

Might be a fun project and you could still honor your Dad in that way.

Also if you do upgrade, consider upgrading to a used low mileage 22-23 GTPE or 24 GT or Rally model with magneride since you'd get depreciation out of that side of the transaction also.

Be aware if you go new the 25's have the small frunk now.

If we're gonna be responsible and rational about it, depends how big of an inheritance she received, her current economic/financial situation, how much the trade in value for a low mile Mach-E and the difference she would pay for a GTPE. I think the current Ford promo is ~$15k to 20k discount to offload old inventory on the lot or lack of EV/car sales in general.

Buuut since there's an emotional rational to honor her dad...I don't think it's gonna change her mind lol.

We have a 24 GT. I like the magnaride but don't think you need to go PE. Believe me the GT will give you whiplash just like the GTPE and it will save you a few bucks.

TBF, I've never driven one with magnaride, but I don't find the ride in my premium to be too rough. I don't think it's any rough than my previous vehicle (Hyundai SANTA FE)

I bought a 2023 Premium AWD used with 16k miles rapid red. I loved that car but a friend bought a 2023 GT and let me drive it. Crazy acceleration! My daughters 2014 Volt started throwing some fault codes and I said now is a good time to upgrade (she had 100k miles on that). Both of my daughters love driving the Premium and I seen a 2023 Rapid Red at a local dealer with only 12k miles. We traded in her Volt and I gave her the Premium. I love driving the GT but don't really notice a difference in the ride quality. I think you would be very happy with a GT, especially the PE version!

Just to clarify suspension-wise in case they are looking in the used market.

The 2022 & 2023 GT non-PE did not have the upgraded suspension, while the 2022 & 2023 GTPE models had the magneride suspension. Not sure on 2021?

Then in 2024 & 2025, all GT (and Rally) models included magneride. 2026 may again be different. This is in the US, Europe and Canada may have been different.

Would be enough to keep my payments the same or less than my current with a down payment and still have a large chunk left for investments. When I said I couldn't justify the GTPE when I got my current, it didn't mean I couldn't already afford it, I just didn't think it was worth an extra $10k+ back then - I didn't know I would love the MME so much. I would absolutely qualify for the 0% interest they are offering right now and would love to have the home charger install also included in the current offer. ETA: If x-plan is still available, I would qualify for that as well.

I'm really just researching the idea right now, looking for experiences that others have had to see if it's really worth doing. I wouldn't be against taking one of the older inventory options if I can find one. If not, I can keep my current and still be happy. I don't have anyone nearby to do the suspension and sway bar upgrade that others have suggested and I don't have the tools to do it myself.

Thanks for clarifying that, I didn't know. No wonder they drive the same :)

I would test drive a new Premium AWD. The suspension was retuned, and you may find that enough. The newer models also have a heat pump, but you lose most of the frunk space.

The GT (and the Rally) has Magnaride, and that is an improvement in ride and handling. You also get the increased performance, but you will pay for that in range/efficiency.

I love my Rally, but it is my first EV and first car with real power.

I see you have a 2025. Supposedly the suspension was improved in the premium, but I haven’t driven one myself, I’ve only been in my 22 premium.
