AstroRob, thanks for fine tuning my post that NASA didn't spend millions developing a space pen, but Fisher Pen got it done for 1 million and now sells that ink space pen for $50 ! My point was that entry into a vehicle should be easy and reliable, like using a pencil, and not based on whether a battery is dead, near dead, almost dead, it may be dead ! To check if it is dead, you open up a trapped door in the bumper and pull wires out, really ! A key in a door, please. Rube Goldberg doesn't have to work for Ford!
i agree the state of affairs with the 12v battery and the doors on the mach-e (and the various teslas) is really insane. just put a mechanical lock on one door, problem solved. but i'm sure someone got an award at ford for cost reducing the door and key fob...

Is there not an issue with using a pencil with graphite dust drifting in zero g? I imagine it could play merry hell with electronics.
It is VERY conductive but i’m sure they use VERY good air filter systems up there?

Folks after almost 4 years of running around happily with my MME, I experienced a LVB failure. My wife managed to drive for 45 min to one of hers hiking trails only to experience the Dead battery issue. The phone rank, her voice a bit concerned that she did something wrong. All was working until she parked the Mach E. I told her that I was on my way with a new battery.
My issue and complaint to Ford is why can’t we all have the way to check the health of our LVB??
Yes….I know, an OBDII reader will be able to help you with the health of the 12V battery. No warning, no notification and no alerts of any impending failure.
It took an hour and a half to gather my tools, a new battery and drive to her hiking spot to change the depleted battery. To my wife, I was a hero. For me was few hours of lost revenue since I took off from work.
Now that this issue is resolved, I wonder if Ford will work on some code to monitor and check the health of that small and pricey AGM battery.
Has to be a way for some of us who can tell when that battery is near the end of its service life.
It feels like rolling the dice every day after the 36 months duration of service life of the battery. Another thing that I learned is that the same battery resides in my Lightning truck. I’m going to have to change the battery in the next 7 months because I don’t want to find out while I am stranded 100-200 miles from home.
Ford's assistance works for five years. She should just call them.

Regarding the battery replacement, in an emergency situation like OP experienced, you can't reset the BMS on the spot, can the reset be done later when get back home?

Do not reset the BMS on a bad battery because that can actually cause a lockout.

You should only reset the BMS after you put in a NEW battery.

Just wanted to be clear on that so people don’t make the situation worse for themselves.

I meant reset after the new battery has been in place

Why am I reminded of the Trolley Problem? If I do nothing, the screaming infant trapped in the car dies. If I break a window, then I have to pay to replace it 🤔😀😀😀
