Okay, all. What is your best method for the occasional need to charge to 100%? I have my 23 GT preset to 85% charge level over night, and next week I have a day of travel that is just outside this range. Last time I tried adjusting the departure time and charge level, nothing worked and I ended up having to reset all sorts of ridiculous things to get back to ground zero (eg: delete phone, delete Ford app, reset PAAK, spent 2 hours on tech support, etc to resolve).

So, for those once every 6 months times when I need to charge to 100%, what is the method to use that is simple and works? TIA

I went into the app, told it to charge to 100% whereupon it asked me if this was a one-time thing, or permanent. Hit one-time, and this morning I woke up with the car sitting at 100%. I didn't have a departure time set.

Double check to make sure that the car's clock is set to the correct time. I was once having charging issues (charging out side of preferred hours) and it turned out the car thought it was 2am when it was actually 2pm.

Here's what I do:

I have a level-2 charger at home. The night before I go, I set my target to 90%, so it's at 90% in the morning. Then, I set the target to 100% at least 3 hours before my departure time, because I have observed that it takes 3 hours to go from 90-100% at my house. That's it!

(If I'll be leaving early in the morning, I just set it to 100% the night before.)

That's worked for me in the past, but after a recent app update (December?) this didn't work well. Every time I would set it to 100% it would start charging immediately rather than my scheduled hours. After fussing with it for 15 minutes I finally got it set to 100% and it charged to that level at night. But the next time it charged I saw it was now set to 100% for all charging and had to reset it back to 90%.

That's exactly as designed, which is why it asks you (now) if it's one-time or permanent.

Got it. When I did this this summer and had all the issues, the app didn’t have the slider/one time option. So hoping this resolves my issue this time around.

Good note on the clock. Mine flaked a month or so ago (mid drive!) and all of a sudden my clock was set to a random time. I had to reset it manually, but all has been fine since. But worth noting all the same.

I believe that if you push the "Start Charging" button in the app at any time, it will think you want to start charging now to 100%. This overrides any other departure time, schedules or limits that you have set.

A feature that I don't like because sometimes I'd like to start charging outside my charging window but I never want to exceed the charge limit I've set on the slider. But should work great for your stated need.

My home charger (~7 KW), Wallbox Pulsar Max is set to charge the car between midnight and 5:30 (UK offpeak rate for my energy supplier). I set the charge to 80% via the FordPass App. If I need to set to 100% for an extra long journey I do that via the App, no problem. No schedule set in the FordPass App. Never been a problem…maybe I’m lucky??

You have two separate things telling the car when to charge and how much to charge.

App is dictating the %, wall box the time.

No luck involved.

Yes, it has done that in the past, but not this time. I would get no prompt, it would just start immediately charging when I moved the slider to 100%.

This is way too much paranoia. Your battery is not going to go into battery decay meltdown the second it hits 100%. It takes sitting at 100% for an extended period of time (like a couple weeks) for it to really matter. Even then, it probably wouldn’t matter much for you because the Mach E (and most EVs) have an upper buffer where what you’re charging to when the car displays 100% is more akin to 90% of the battery capacity.

Just charge to 100% when you need the range and if you leave in the next 24-48 hours of reaching that charge you’re nowhere near needing to worry about anything.

I wander what all the beef is about charging to 100%. I have my GT for four years now and always charge to 100% and I haven’t noticed any reduction on the mileage on the battery thus far. I just plug it in and let it rip!!

1) Ford recommends 90%.
2) You have no way to know the impact since you have to read it with an OBD reader...

All i can tell you in the summer I get between 310 to 320 miles of charge and in winter 250 to 260. This has been consistent throughout 4 years. What will it be in the future? I may regret it….
