Greetings, here’s my first thread! I’ve had my ‘24 AWD Premium extended range since fall of ‘24. Love it. Live in New England, and saw the (anticipated…) 20% (+/-) drop during winter. BTW, I have found pre-conditioning the battery (and pre-warming the cabin) using the departure feature helpful. All good.

Salesman told me to reset my “Driving History” occasionally during winter, and range will improve. OK, I did - and to my surprise, it SHOWED about 20 more miles of range, bringing it just about back to its initial range when first purchased. I like him very much, but couldn't get an acceptable answer to this question: If under identical weather/driving conditions, would I really have been able to drive 20 miles further vs had I not reset it? Or, did resetting just SHOW the battery’s initial range. And no, I didn’t count the actual miles on the odometer (ok, I started to, but forgot by the next time I charged).

It seems odd to me that I’d have to do this reset to get the most actual range.

No, resetting it will make no difference in actual driving range. That is why we call the displayed range the GOM or guess-o-meter. The battery percentage and miles/kW are more accurate.

Yeap. But after a little while it will adjust based on conditions and your driving style.

No, it won't change the range at all.

Your salesman either lied to you, or was an idiot. Likely an uninformed idiot.

Your range will not change one iota by resetting the GOM. The PREDICTED range is based on driving history. ERASE HISTORY, and it resets, and then starts adjusting to your driving again.

So, let's say it showed 300 brand new. Now, you drive in the winter and it drops to 290, 280, 270, and maybe stops at 240. Now, as it warms up, it will take a long time to climb. Or, you reset to 300, and then it starts to slowly drop to warm weather range.

Also, since it's based off history, if you drive local all the time, it will be high. Now, you go on a trip on the highway. It had no idea you would do that. If you put the destination into the navigation, it will adjust rapidly some, but still has no idea what highway driving is. So it will start dropping. After driving on a 1,000 mile trip, maybe it shows 250 or 260 in the summer. Now, you come home and start local driving again. It won't adjust to that quick, so do the reset and it will adjust to the default.

Or, learn your efficiency and ignore the prediction.

Your salesman doesn’t know what they are talking about. Your actual range is determined by other factors . The car provided range estimate (gom) accuracy is a completely different discussion.

It (the GOM) is just like a 'miles to empty' on an ICE car, it is an estimate based on the past history given the current state of charge (or fuel level), reset starts all over from the Mfg baseline...

You will always get what the battery state, driving conditions, driving habits, and weather allow. The range is a guess based on the history of those factors.

What are you talking about?
So if I reset my history and it shows 270, I will really get 270???
Nah, it just changes the number that your range drops from...

BEST ANSWER! Thanks.
you can also monitor the “Miles per KWH” function and watch that jump around as you drive at 35, then 80; go up hill into a wind; then down a long grade. It’s an estimate - teaches you about aerodynamics & energy management.
