My Mach E was supposed to be delivered yesterday. Dealer has no clue where it is. Now what?

The NJ Charge UP website says must be purchased by Dec 15, 2020. Your dealer invoice and paperwork will be listed for March, even if you purchase it before March 15, 2021? Not sure Ford.com reservation would qualify as purchase date? Anyone have any success submitting a request like this?

Next eligible round seems to be July or August 2021 depending on the NJ Fiscal 2022 budget passing. It will also have to be under Phase 2 which means direct rebate to dealer instead of an application.

Website Text:

Post-Purchase or Lease Program Update
Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Charge Up New Jersey program, most of the program’s FY 2021 funding will be allocated by the end of 2020. According to the EV program requirements (published in the FY 2021 Compliance Filing), all incentives are subject to availability of funds. Therefore, applicants must purchase or lease their EV on or before December 15, 2020 and submit their application to the program portal by March 15, 2021 to be eligible for a post-purchase incentive.

Yes, but several of us have been in contact with the BPU and their stance has been that as long as the car was ordered before 12/15 and actually received by 3/15 the car qualifies for the rebate. I have yet to see anyone actually get their rebates yet, however.

Ah... I didn't know that was the BPU stance. Good luck to everyone then. Does the converse also hold true to cars ordered in 2020 and delivered during phase 2 in the summer? Will still qualify for phase 2 and not be considered as purchased last year which are not eligible?

With intially a May 2021 production date (which isn't even listed anymore on the Ford website), I'm currently hoping my delivery is delayed into phase 2 now.

Anyone have discussion with dealers to delay purchase after delivery if it gets close to start of phase 2 within 1-2 months. I know they may lose some money waiting to close deal but wonder if it could be quantified and worked out. If you are trying for ford financing incentive, x pricing, and then this NJ Charge up thing, what is the best way to bring it up without getting dismissed or pressured to close.

I'm picking up today and according to the dealer, I can do a 3 year lease (as opposed to Ford options.) If so, they'll take $17000 off the top and base the lease on the remainder. I'll let you all know if I get the $5000.

that "take $17000 off the top" feels slightly fishy but if it all works out, good for you! ?

Congrats to just make it under the wire of the 3/15 deadline! I am less than a week out now myself, and still no tracking updates from the dealer or palsapp. I'm still holding out hope, but facing the facts that it probably will not arrive by Monday. I might have to bail on this MME and place an order for a new one in order to get the NJ rebate in July 2021.

Our Ford tracker is now counting up (delivery date has passed), so we are in a similar position. I believe the car made it to Delaware, but still hasn't arrived at the dealer yet. In reality, it probably needs to arrive by Friday in order to be prepped and get the deal done in time to beat the deadline.

The last two cars I leased were plug-in hybrids (Ford Fusion and Kia Optima) that were eligible for the $12,500 tax credit. Since the credit goes to the owner, in this case the leasing company, they adjusted took off $12,500 off the price and started negotiations from there.

From Edmunds:
If you are leasing the EV, the tax credit goes to the manufacturer that's offering the lease, not you. The carmaker will likely factor the credit into the cost of the lease to lower your monthly payment, but it isn't mandatory.

Yes, but Ford isn't doing that for the MME. Are you saying they did that for you?

I am also suspect of $17K "off the top" for a lease. As the saying goes: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't. But I hope you get it.

OK, sorry, I keep adding an extra $5000 for some reason. I meant $7500 for the previous cars and $12,500 for the Mach E.

That being said, I picked it up last night and opted to lease. Instead of adjusting the capitalized cost down, they adjusted the residual value up by 13%. It ends up being roughly the same net effect, but they just made it even more confusing. I ended up leasing as I didn't realize that to qualify for the $7500 tax credit, I would actually have to have at least $7500 in tax liabilities. I didn't feel like messing around with my withholdings to get there, so I took the easy way out. That being said, the NJ $5000 is a rebate that goes straight to the owner/lessee. So, I'm applying for that as I type.

Also, the car is fantastic. :)

Yup, that's how they do it for a lease. As long as you're definitely going to turn it in at the end, it doesn't make that much of a difference. At that point, it's really just the money factor that's not overly attractive. But if you weren't going to qualify for the $7500 tax credit, going with a lease and the higher residual can definitely make sense.

So, not to rain on your parade but that's not how it works. It's not based on you owing $7500 on April 15th, and your withholdings would have nothing to do with it

It has to do with you having a tax liability at all. Even if you get a refund every year, if you make enough money to buy a Mach E, you likely have a $7500 tax liability

For example, if you had $15,000 in taxes withheld throughout the year, but at the end of the year only owed $13,000 in taxes, you'd get a refund of $2k in April. That doesn't mean you didn't have a tax liability--you did, of $13,000

In the above example if you reduced your withholding so that you only paid $10,000 throughout the year your tax liability didn't increase, it was still $13,000

In the above example, instead of getting a $2k refund in April, you would've gotten a $10,500 refund
