Our cars are becoming every espionage security analyst's worst nightmare. Bristling with video cameras.....

Anyone hear of problems on US bases yet?

I haven't but it probably depends on the base and more specifically, the area of the base. Think about some place like the Air Force Academy. There's tons of photography going on there.

But I was stationed at one place that had tons of those no photography signs up all over and the whole installation was a Restricted Area. It's actually gone now, but I can't imagine a place like that allowing dashcams (or Teslas). It was pretty locked down.

In China, Tesla’s are not allowed near government installations. Since the Chinese market Mustang Mach E’s will be manufactured by a Chinese owned company, I’ve been wondering how much of a rewrite all the code is going to get?

I worked at a place like that once, but only military vehicles were allowed beyond the outside parking lots, so it wouldn’t have been a problem there.

Most installations have their more sensitive areas segregated anyway so they will probably just do that. And now that I think about it, that one place I was at went "more secure" eventually (before they closed it). They setup off site parking and even bought/confiscated the road next to the base and turned it into a security perimeter.

Around 2002 they started to put a lot of fences and gates up on base. Before that you could park on the pier if there was a spot, afterwards you were lucky to find parking anywhere and then walk for half an hour.

I'm sure any issues with cameras won't be limited to EVs, basically all new cars have cameras, sensors and convectively.

One thing that EVs do have that might cause some issue/confusion is a sealed flat undercarriage (did I describe tar correctly), so there little under car mirrors won't see much.

Um, yeah. The place I worked at was just one big "segregated sensitive area". I quickly learned to be very careful about where I walked outside (I was a civilian).
As I said, I'm actually more curious about how our dear friends, the Chinese are going to deal with these connected vehicles? Will your car just stop working if your social score suddenly drops for example?

I’ve been made to unplug and take down a dash cam before being allowed on base. Wonder if the DOD police even know what to do about cars with built in cameras?

In the UK, USAF was using Tesla S as chase cars for U2 landings and takeoffs, it doesn't get a lot more secure than U2 ops. Looks like in the U.S. they still use mostly Camero and Mustangs.

I guess I could see some concerns for asset movements, but the wide angle nature of dashcams and Tesla cams is probably less problematic than smartphone cameras.

That is policy for us, at a DOE. There are zero cameras allowed, to include dash cameras. Civilian vehicles cannot travel in the most secure areas, it's walled off by fences, razor wire and posts. So worries about that. But there is no cell phone usage while driving, even via Bluetooth onsite either, and no pictures taken with anything.

Cars with cameras aren't an EV thing. plenty of gas powered vehicles have a lot of cameras all over them
All new cars have reverse cameras by law at minimum.
A camera is a camera, the issue is storage and transmission of images.
LOTS of cars have forward facing cameras (for example anything that reads street signs like my parent's 2017 Volvo)

The storage and transmission thing is almost unique to Tesla.
The storage thing comes equipped from factory on a couple cars - the first that comes to mind is the last gen (and likely current gen) Corvettes with track packages.
