The guess-o-meter is just that.... a guess. Based on average consumption since you last cleared it. If you have been just driving around town, stop-and-go at relatively low speeds, be aware that the GOM will not be conservative enough if you head out on a highway trip at higher speeds and without regen braking to extend the range.

To keep yourself out of trouble on range estimating, clear the GOM trip data before heading out on a long highway trip so it starts back with the 'default' values for calculating range.

for example.... I have driven just over 1000 mi, mostly 'around town' urban/suburban, with just a couple longer work trip to sites that were maybe 40 miles out of town. I have a SR pack (68 kWhr). I just charged up the other day to 99%, and the GOM said I had 258 mile range..... I would still not count on getting more than 200 if I were on a road trip, and I would plan to charge at 150 to be kind to the batteries.
Ooohhhh! Guess-O-Meter
Thank you!! Finally. Reading through the thread waiting for someone to ask or say it! ?

There have been lots of new threads popping up from first time BEV drivers who are all worried or worked up because their Guess-O-Meter is showing much less range than they think it should.
GOM has worked well for me since the start. Just did a 800 Km run at 110 to 120 Km/hr and averaged around 20 - 22 Kw/100 Km. So below is a good guess. Maybe 20 clicks light . Not bad thou ...... for highway range that is ;).

I sure wish that we could fully trust the GOM. I'm about to make a 215 mile drive this morning and it would be great to not need to plan a charging stop 1/3 of the way up at the only EA Fast Charging station on the route because the GOM is giving me some hope that I could make the drive in its entirety. Sure, my ER AWD MME should be able to make it 2515 miles without a charge, but with my wife, son and dog all in the car, it is better to just not chance it.

215 miles on 88kwh is 2.44 mi/kwh. Start the trip and watch the mi/kwh in the tripmeter before you get to the charger. I suspect you'll get over 3 mi/kwh, but as long as it is at least 2.7 you won't need to stop to add charge.

You will never go 2515 miles without charging ;) . Your pic is 60 miles over EPA. Has your GOM set with you doing mostly slow stop and go driving? Speed kills range and at 68 oF and 60 mph you should get the EPA (270 miles). Drive 50 and you should make 215 no problems in idea weather. I knew there were effects due to speed and temp but since I have driven one now for awhile I now have an understand how drastic those can be. Driving at 90 mph I think you may need a charge and it is cool here lately (30 - 40 miles cool). You are your own trip planner as you have all the variable's. I have been a bit of a chicken when it comes to road trips so far. Tripping will surprise you but have avoided bad EV PR.

Don't trust the GOM but do trust the navigation. Plug the route into the Ford Navigation. If the car says it can make the trip you'll be fine. At 215 miles in an E4X, you shouldn't need to stop.

I see your point, but the Estimated Range deserves about as much credence as the Instant Economy on an ICE vehicle. BTW I get 99+ mpg on my Malibu quite frequently. ??
You actually do! In some situations, the car shots off the fuel injectors!

Yup, sitting here right this moment at EA in Milwaukee with a perfect Plug and Charge experience just for the heck of it really while eating some lunch. GPS would have let us make the drive fully, but figured I may as well use some our our free charging credits.

Yup I just went 185 miles and only used 60% battery, but gom shows much less.

You'd get better range if you drive without leaving the doors open. It's more aerodynamic that way. Just sayin'. ?

What's 20 minutes for all to relax and regroup. Enjoy.
