yeah, I guess it depends on the purpose. If it is there for safety reasons (kid getting trapped), Ford might throw it in free to reduce their liability. It wasn't listed as a "package", or part of an existing package, which makes me think it is standard. I don't think they would include it in official media images if it was just some dealer side-hussle.

There is already a legal requirement for a safety button/release inside the frunk (and trunk) for this reason.

My guess is official Ford add-on item for a cost.

If my 4 year old climbed in there, I doubt he would know how to use the safety release system. Just because legal requirements are met, doesn't mean it is not in Ford's best interest to go beyond them to reduce civil liabilities while making the vehicle more attractive to potential buyers at the same time. Regardless, I guess we will just have to wait and see if it is included or not.

With the safety release their liability is basically zero. So they can't reduce it any lower.

The giant lighted button on the passenger side guarantees that

One of the new videos on that page (The Luxury of Space) continues to suggest the rear seats don't fold completely flat. That would be a little disappointing.

What page is that on? Could you provide a link?

What do you mean completely flat? Looks flat. BUT based on earlier description, it won't be level/flush/flat with the trunk area.

It looked to me like it was still at a mild slope even after folding down. Or so it appeared (looking at the edge next to the passenger door).

I saw a picture from like 6 months ago that suggested the same thing. (Although those may not have been the final seats.)

I agree that they do appear to have a very slight slope to them -- but it is very minor.
On a positive note, it does appear to confirm that the floor of the cargo area can be raised flush with the folded seats. This video doesn't show the floor lower down like we've seen in pictures.

And that's still showing it with the sunken lip at the tailgate ledge. An earlier picture made it look like there were little tabs sticking out suggesting that the cargo floorboard could be adjusted to sit on those if desired, presumably flush to the tailgate ledge as well. This video suggests otherwise though.

Actually I'm starting to doubt the accuracy of the video, as just an animation. The edge of the folded seatback by the door doesn't even look parallel to the middle edge.

I also wonder if the fold-down slope might be different on the AWD than the RWD? I think I saw someone post that the AWD is actually a little smaller cargo space than the RWD. (Which is odd since the extra motor is in the front.)

If anything, I think it would be the extended range battery potentially cutting into space. I don't see how AWD would impact the rear space at all. I also agree that I wouldn't take too much stock into exactly how it looks as it is just a marketing animation, not the actual seats.

The seats may flatten out more once more weight is on them and the seat cushions compress. That was the case with my Outback. It may be a good idea to use a mat over it all to protect the seat backs, which would even it out more.
