One would think a $500+ part that is integral to the operation of a $55,000+ car would be robust enough to survive a 3-foot drop onto a garage floor. Any bets on whether Ford would consider this an item covered by the bumper-to-bumper warranty?

I've seen a few people on here where the exact same thing happened. Might want to do some searching to see how it went.

It would be great if someone took theirs apart, 3D scanned that part, and posted the file so we could 3D print replacements...

Mine got bounced off the Garage floor yesterday but it didn’t break. I have it plugged in to a dummy socket when not in use. Maybe that helped?

Ironically, this happened as I was installing the dummy socket on the wall next to my car’s charge port — trying to gauge the most comfortable height and location and see how far the charger head would stick out from the wall. ?

Yeah, I haven’t decided where to mount it yet so just have it plugged and hanging. Maybe the dummy socket absorbed the impact when it hit the floor?

Still thinking about this. If I mount it up too high then my Wife will have a hard time reaching it! Maybe I should have married a taller woman!! Lol

Haha! Fortunately, I live alone, but my girlfriend is miffed I didn't install the NEMA 14-50A plug in a location that's convenient for charging her Tesla Model 3. Oh well.

Where I did install it is on the wall right next to the charging port on my MME. The dummy plug is mounted on a stud at approximately the same height as the charging port, which is about 35 inches above the floor (give or take an inch). Of course, the charger head is just sitting in the dummy plug, since obviously the latch is no longer attached to hold it in place. The charger still works, fortunately, and fits snugly into the charging port on the car; it just doesn't click/lock into place.

So I assume from your post that Ford did not cover this; am I right? Did they tell you that is was due to abuse or your negligence? I agree with you, it should be covered in a $55,000+ car! And yes, it should be robust enough to survive a fall of 3 feet.

I haven’t asked yet. I thought I’d see whether anyone else had tried yet. I’ll swing by my Ford dealer in the next week or two (hopefully to pick up my floor mats) and ask them whether it’s covered.

Personally, I would be more aggressive and relate what happened and in a very polite manner demand that it be replaced under warranty. We both know this should not have happened from a three foot fall and they need to know this too. Hopefully, they’ll see things your way and replace the mobile charger at no cost to you. This is just my opinion about what I would do if it were me.
