Which is the better way to precondition the car? Remote start or set departure time?
I have to admit setting departure time hasn’t worked for me. Ford Pass keeps giving me error that operation was incomplete or some such.

I am no expert but my 1st thought is it should not matter. My departure times seemed to work well but more times than not (especially) afterwork; my departure times are erratic.

What I do wish is we could change the cabin temp from the App. If it's mild conditions on the way to work but then wicked hot (or cold) on the drive home it would be nice to cool or warm the cabin based on the outside conditions and not to it's last settings.

That would be nice. Nothing too fancy, could keep the 'warm' 'medium' and 'cool' settings from the preconditioning menu, but allow an external temperature switch point in the app for us. E.g. if over 20c set to cool, if under 5c set to warm, or however you liked it.

You’ll have to convert those temps to real temperature units for me (LOL JK)

ps where’s a pic of the ‘65 Ford

I have wondered the same thing, been meaning to look into this, and test behavior of departure time some more.

I do believe it will adjust the intensity of what cool, medium, warm will do based on outside temp, but yeah it'd be nice for a control over those parameters.

First time using it over the summer, I set to Cool... Thinking that was obvious. Came out to my garage to find the windows had starting frosting up on the inside! ? Now i just set to Medium... We'll see how that does in Winter.

It depends on your goal. If you just want to precondition the cabin so that you're warm or cool when you get in, either will work fine. If you want to precondition the battery, you should use departure times because it takes a lot longer than 15 minutes to warm or cool a battery with so much thermal mass.

In your case, remote start is better because it appears that is more reliable than departure times.

I have departure times set and it is hit and miss. I usually look at my phone when I am getting ready for work and if it says Preparing for Drive then it worked. If not, then I remote start the car manually from the app.......well of course from the app because that is the only way that I know of for the Mach-E. :)

If driving the Wrangler 4xe, then I can remote start from my desktop, the mobile app or key fob. Which is really my only option because that car doesn't even offer a Departure Time feature. Go figure....???

i guess a warm battery is key to getting the best mls/kwh?

The previous posts about Departure Time pre conditioning the battery are correct. Also I’ve noticed that Departure Time starts will pull power from the house if it’s plugged in, while remote start will pull from the battery.

My remote starts pull from shore power if plugged in.

This is why I actually prefer Remote Start. The car automatically tries to achieve 70°F (21°C). If it’s a cold morning, heated seats, heated Steering Wheel and Cabin heat come on. If it’s a hot day, Air conditioning at full blast to drive the temp down before I get there.
Also the only thing reliable or routine about my schedule is that I will go home from work sometime during each … week (mostly).

Weird mine doesn’t show any power draw.
My remote start pulls power from the battery but then my charger immediately starts to replace the battery usage. So by the Associative Property, my reMote starts are using wall power.
