Have a production date of 11/22 and will probably take delivery around January. Thinking of taking the brand new GTPE right to tire store to permanently change to all season tires. Anyone done this already? What would you suggest? CAn you get the GT all-seasons somewhere. Thanks!
I am not a fan of all-season... I bought a set of lighter than stock aftermarket wheels for summer tires (Enkei TS-V, $1000 msrp for 4, plus tps, plus new lug nuts), and 'real' snow/ice tires (Vredestein Wintrac pro) that I put on the stock wheels. I switch the whole set when a storm rolls in or I know I am headed for the mountains.

this thread is very helpful.

I am (hopefully!) taking delivery of a GTPE in a few weeks and live in NY. I dont think I will get an extra set and am leaning towards all weather tires which have always served me well in the past.

I am wondering if anyone has had success with Ford Dealers willing to take the tires that come OEM (at a reasonable discount) so I dont have to sell them online, and then I can have tirerack ship them my all weather tires to mount when I pick up the car?

The tires that come on the car are 'not bad'. The MME is heavy, and AWD... you will be FINE with the stock tires for 'all weather' driving. You may want to consider a set of Performance Summer wheels/tires in the Spring, but stock tires will probably be fine for anything up to horrendous mountain passes. ;)

Exactly Joel, these are two different tires designed for two different vehicles. However, either one will work very well on the Mach-E depending on what you are after. A Grand Touring All Season tire like the Vredestein Quatrac Pro will give a more comfortable ride and be a little better in winter conditions than an Ultra High Performance All Season, however will be slightly lacking in the handling and steering area as seen in the Tire Rack's testing.

On the other hand, an Ultra High Performance All Season tire like the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus is meant to deliver exceptional handling above all so road comfort and winter drive conditions might be a little lacking compared to a Grand Touring All Season.

When Grand Touring tires are tested, they are usually done so on the vehicles they were designed for like Audi SUV's, Chrysler mini-vans, Mazda Crossovers, etc. Ultra High Performance All Seasons are tested on vehicles such as Porsche SUV's, BMW sport coupes, etc. Both the Grand Touring All Season Vredestein's and Ultra High Performance All Season Continental's are great tires and I'm sure will work very well on the Mach-E, just depends on what road manners your preference is in a tire.

With all that said, I am throwing in my 2 cents and preference tire here. I needed an all season tire for the Mach-E and I'm looking for two types of road manners above all, handling and road comfort. I am a Michelin guy and would normally gravitate to their Ultra High Performance Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires however while they handle well, they aren't very good in road comfort (noisy and harsh). Every professional review I have read comments on them having high road noise (including Tire Rack). I had a set on my Escape and they were very annoying.

I went with the Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus. While they were second best in handling on the Tire Rack's testing in this class of tires, they came out on top for both ride quality and noise comfort. (https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/chartDisplay.jsp?ttid=266) I've had them on the Premium for two weeks now and so far like them very much. A very comfortable and quiet tire and seem to handle very well in the limited time I have driven on them. Will be moving them over to the GT-PE tomorrow and looking forward to really testing them out.
Sin’t the GT a different width than your premium?

I purchased aftermarket wheels for the premium shortly after I got the car in March (20x8.5 front, 20x10 rear). I've had several sets of tires on these wheels testing out different sizes and their performance. I now have the Pirelli All Season tires on them and moved this setup over to the GTPE. I've never used any of the stock OEM wheels/tires that came with either car.

All great info!
SE Michigan...
I went with Pirelli Scorpion Winter 245/45 20 on the OEM wheels, Discount Tire $1,342.68 with road hazard. I plan to put the OEM Pirelli summer tires back on in the spring.

So we live in the same area @HuntingPudel, and I've always found the tradeoff of leaving my summer tires on my car year-round to be fine. I generally love Pilot Super Sport 4S, which I'll probably throw on once I chew through these OEM tires. This will probably happen fast, I think they're like okay but not sticky enough and more noisy.

I will say that the only bad situation I had with this choice is that I was driving my Mazda RX-8 in winter up I-280 at night, and around Half Moon Bay, there clearly was black ice or the tarmac temp had dropped enough that the tires just froze and had zero grip. Fortunately no one on the road, and I was able to let the car coast slower and regain steering, but I have to think that a winter tire or all-seasons wouldn't have had such performance problems in the probably high 30s-low 40s temps.

I gotta think the Mach E has so much weight, that skating on the wrong tires would be a far scarier prospect as you'll have a lot of momentum potentially going the wrong direction.

I generally don't drive at night in the winter time where the ambient temp is low enough for this to matter -- but I wouldn't choose summer tires if I drove higher-speed in low-to-mid 40s temps regularly. We have my wife's car with all-seasons for such instances these days.

I’m playing it by ear in my GT-PE. It’s got a delivery window at the end of November. I don’t often see temps below 45 where I live and work. If it looks like it will get close I will get some new A/S tires. If not, I’ll keep chancing it with the Summers. Just gonna keep watching the forecasts.

Here is my winter GTPE set up.
Just installed...driven 40 miles so far.
I've always been a fan of the Conti's and have them on my M3.
On the GTPE - the ride is much smoother than the Pirelli's.
Not planning on any snow driving so these should do nicely.

Everything is from TireRack. Tires/Wheels/TPMS - delivered to my house all put together.
I swapped out everything myself in the driveway.

Having a 3 ton jack (w/hockey puck)+ a torque wrench that goes to 150 ft/lbs + a good impact gun are a must for a DYI'er. The OEM lug nuts will not work with these wheels as the lug bores are much smaller. Luckily the wheels come with custom lug nuts + a skinny socket adapter. The wheels also come with hub centering rings as the OEM center bore is smaller on the Mach-e. than on the wheels. TireRack guides you with all of this information.

Wanted to comment that, the OEM Pirelli P Zero Elect tires that come on the GTPE are definitely quieter than Pilot Sport 4s. I have had both on my Mach-E and not only are the Pirelli tires quieter but don't ride as harsh. That said, I feel the Michelin's are still a better performance tire and why they are my favorite and I use them all the time.

Thanks -- I've never had a vehicle as quiet as this one before, will be interesting to compare relative noise levels of these two tires. I'm not looking for my car to be super-duper quiet, but I'm definitely thinking the P4S will be better performing which is more important!

I swapped the P-Zero summer tires for A/S Quatrac Pros on the original wheels for the wet winter in the PNW. First impression was these are really, really quiet and smooth - quite a bit lighter as well. Nice and comfortable daily driver tires.

They don't grip as well as the summers when I floor it, and roll a bit more but that's to be expected...

Keeping the summer tires for the summer. Keep in mind the lug nuts on the wheels require 150 lb-ft so get your breaker bar out if you wanna DIY lol

Tire Research: Tire Ratings Charts and Reviews | Tire Rack - there are multiple categories of tires with all-season in their name - you may want to decide which category fits your needs and environment. Driving on a wet race track is not the same as taking a road trip, and so on.
